<![CDATA[Secondary School Assessment Books]]>I know what I am going to ask sounds kiasu :oops: but I was browsing along the shelves of the Sec 1 assessment books in Popular bookstore over the weekend and saw Geography and History assessment books, on top of the many other assessment books and guide books. Currently I do buy some assessment books for my son to practice on. When he goes to Sec 1 next year, I am wondering whether are there parents here who buy these Geography/History assessment books for their children? Will they have the time to do them considering the heavier workload and many other activities in sec school?

We took photos with it, leads to no where. Hmm the internal stairs at BB popular was still there when we were there to get school books in December. Did they removed it recently? Strange.

There was a book shop opposite the Bras Basah Plaza called The Commercial Press Pte Ltd. 商务印书馆 where became part of SMU now. Besides the book shop, at Victoria Hotel, there was a Hainanese restaurant called 三亚餐厅. The food there was delicious…those days are gone…

I lived in upper Bkt Timah, so BTP was my main stomping ground. I guess I never needed to find a Popular anywhere else! Not that we used as many assessment books as kids do today.

We would spend hours and hours just browsing the story books and never grew sick of it. The one browsing and buying the TYS and assessment books would be my mum - I just obediently did all she bought.

You make me feel so old! Buying school assessment books in my sec school days (late '70s) was in the shophouses along Bras Basah Road. I don't actually remember Popular Book Store at all till around upper sec when it opened at Bukit Timah Plaza.

And now I think about it, assessment and practice papers in those days weren't nicely printed and bound like they are now - I recall flimsy grey/brown paper, and some in separate sheets in plastic bags! Harder on the eyes, but greener, I feel.

Now that you mentioned it... yeah... I remember the internal staircase... but I think it has been removed for a long time already? Like 10 years ago? The most famous spiral staircase is the one at the Singapore museum... up to now, I still wonder where it spirals to... there's plenty of ghost stories surrounding that mysterious staircase. Dunno if it is still there.

We have the sci books, physics Chemistry biology, 3rd edition .. brand new untouched. dd really no time for assessments. Can lend to you if they’re really out of business. Maybe can make a copy, I’m not sure.

can ask Popular staff, which Popular branch still have these GLM books. They can check their computer catalogue. Just tell them u only need 1 copy.
