There is also an outbreak of stomach flu at the Kiddiwinkie Schoolhouse Orchard branch. My child is at the Orchard branch and I am reconsidering withdrawing as they seem to keep having more cases despite updating us that they have it under control.

The place is good and cosy and I really like the environment and the materials they provide but the teacher who brought me around didn’t have appropriate dressing. Wearing a spaghetti Strap Top and short skirt and her assets was spilling out. She bend over and i could almost see her underwear. How can she set a good example for my children…

The fees were pricey but the place was really inviting. Still looking for schools… Any recommendations from anyone?

I just visited Mindchamps Buangkok last week, i am really blown and impressed with their level of cleanliness. I was visiting a few Childcare centres and noticed all of it have some mild smell. I cannot describe the smell as i am very sensitive to any smell. I don't find that in Mindchamps Buangkok, maybe because they have air purifiers in every room! After visiting a few different CC's i am sold. I am transferring my girl there starting December. If anyone wants to go Mindchamps, start before 2018, show them your Amex card, you can get 10% off the school fees for 8 months!. So we initially wanted to wait till Jan 2018 to let my girl finish this year but we will let her start earlier instead to enjoy the discount!.
Just sharing so if any parents are thinking of transferring, do it before Jan 2018. We asked Mindchamps HQ and they say it applies to all branches cause another one of my friend is going to send her kid to another branch so we told them and they contacted the branch and they got the discount too.

You are right - Mindchamps does feel more clinical to me as well, but the cleanliness factor is a huge plus (at least for those branches I visited!). I must say the Food Network fan in me was also sold on their Gourmet Moments program:P I liked Kiddiewinkie too... more outdoor space and sunlight, and I was rather impressed with the principal's experience and candour during my visit. Net, this mama likes both (argh!) so I guess I will bring the kiddie along with me next time and let him decide 😛

Haha the Gourmet Moments sounds good right hmm but after being in the programme, I felt it was just eating haha, it is how they market it. But cleanliness in Mindchamps is top-notch. Actually my child was at another cc before. She kept falling sick then when she went Mindchamps, she was hardly sick and that is important. Btw for Childfirst, my friend who sent her child there swears by it. She says they are structured in their teaching, their facilities esp the speech and drama room and playground are amazing..the teachers are also quite experienced but yes not the cuddly, lovey dovey type but effective. They are too far for me also but I would have given them a try if they had been nearer. Sigh seems the very good ccs are mainly in the east or bukit timah area.

I am at Upper Thomson branch:) I have a friend who knows the principal at one of the kiddiewinkie branches. She said they are good, I went down to take a look at the newton branch, I felt in terms of cleanliness and environment, Mindchamps is better but it also depends on what you are looking at. Mindchamps can feel a bit clinical - to me at least. But my kid likes it..I think the place that impressed me the most in terms of their teachers is Between two trees. Have you heard of Childfirst, they are also not bad:)

Yes for Mindchamps, it is franchised and I feel what matters is whether the director (franchisee) is 'on' or not. I went to some mindchamps branches to check them out and some of the teachers look sian also or can't be bothered attitude..but for Upper Thomson, Buangkok, Lorong Chuan (Serangoon), Chinese preschool at tampines, I felt they are well run.- we chose Upper Thomson in the end as it was the nearest to our house. Haha I very KS so went to see a lot. Cos I feel the fees are so ex, I dont want to get cheated cos sometimes, I feel it is the branding and we are paying for the marketing, I dont know if quality is really good.

thanks very much coolit for the sharing. i guess staying is something we will definitely consider, though being curious parents who really haven't done any research for anything beyond infant care, we will keep a ear out for any reviews or views that all you more experienced parents may have through this forum 😃
Yes I think early childhood education is quite important, it sets the foundation. I also took quite long to decide where to send my youngest. I was the typical KS mother, I went to many places to check them out. It is quite hard to say which places are better because we did not actually go and try them out. But based on what I saw and felt and also what some parents said, for us we did not choose Maple Bear and Pat's. Pat's honestly to me, some of the branches felt a little 'xian' like teachers going through the motions. We went to a few to check them out but there was one - at Sembawang area, in a country club that seemed vibrant. For Maplebear, we initially liked it, the teachers seemed not bad but we felt that in terms of learning, they do not learn much- this is from a KS perspective haha. But I do know that many in the early childhood industry say that children at this age learn through play.

Then we went to check out Between two trees. They use the reggio emilia approach where children get to choose what to work on in the day and in the afternoon there is more structured learning. The teachers there seem very professional and we love the environment but it was too far for us in the end.

Right now, we are at Mindchamps which I feel is a good balance between play and structured learning but whether it is effective, it still remains to be seen..so at the end of the day, I feel if your child is happy and she or he is learning then stay with that place and right now for Maplebear, Pats, Mindchamps etc, at the rate they are expanding even if one does not work out for you, I think there will still be space if you change to another centre in the future.

*we considered kiddiewinkie grandstand previously for infant care, but went with maple bear experential eventually due to small teacher student ratio, the teachers and non-commercial feel. but we did feel that kiddiewinke was not bad too

we are actually super happy now at maple bear experential infant care and might end up staying there, but would always like to learn about our options when our child is a bit older (we are first time parents who sent our kid from two months old so we were pretty worried about everything, we considered close to 10 centres before we went to the current infant care centre haha. the centre has taken much better care of our child than even we expected, and have been super accommodating of our requests in caring for our child - we wrote a few page \"guide\" on our child on everything from feeding to napping to playtime etc for the teachers to absorb and follow when he first started and they've followed up so well. happy to share our experience on infant care to anyone interested, though our experience is only limited to infant care for now!)

If you are happy with Maplebear, why don't you stay there? I think Maplebear and Pat's schoolhouse in terms of teaching methodology quite similar. If you are looking for a place that is more academic, then Maplebear and Pat's may not be so suitable. Many of my friends who sent their kids to Pats also send their kids to enrichment classes. They feel Pats is a good environment, fun and kids love it but they need outside help if they want their kids very prepared for P1..but if you are quite the relax kind, they Maplebear and Pat's are good choices.

The compound is HUGE!!!!! When we were there for a visit, we keep thinking \"Wow, you mean there's still more to see over there?\" They have very nice dance studio, music room, infant care room, stage, classrooms, gardening area, bathrooms etc..

Teachers there seem caring, students there are well-behaved and followed instructions. We witness some disagreements between 2 students, one of them didn't like the other one. 2 teachers were addressing the issue and asked why there's the dislike. They were educating the student in a gentle, patient and professional manner. They did not show any bias-ness towards either of the student which is great!!! At the end, they made the students shake hands with each other!!!

One thing i notice is that the artwork or drawings hanging around are near to similar or perfect. I wonder if the teachers had helped to complete the artwork for the students.


Pat's schoolhouse

Went to visit the new Pat's schoolhouse at turf city area. LOVE THE PLAYGROUND! The principal was friendly, patient and answered every of our questions. Teachers there seem to enjoy working with each other, the whole vibe was good to me. Nice spacious campus. As the school is quite new, you would expect everything to be in order and clean and new. At that point there were only 2 students, so imagine the attention they were getting from at least 6 teachers!!!!!
