My DD has applied for DSA at NYGH this year and had went for the audition. She is through Chinese Orchestra PIPA. Does any parents know how many intake for the Chinese Orchestra PIPA in 2013. No news from the school until now and the status for interview still pending in the website. She had attained Grade 6, went through two SYF competition with Silver and Gold and average result in overall. Still keeping my finger cross.

I believe it's not necessary to prepare for the GAT test. If you do, then how you perform probably isn't a fair indication of your true ability.

Now that the whole DSA exercise had come to an end, I would like to comment on a 'discovery' which I personally deemed rather unfair about the GAT test.

When I called the GAT admin to enquire the kind of questions expected and whether english test would be included, they told me they couldn't give me any answer, somehow like a top secret.
But some time after my son had sat for the exam, a friend told me that actually there is a tuition centre giving training for GAT. Upon checking the questions, my son told me those are the type of questions he sat for. I was very shocked because prior to that, he couldn't find any questions so close to those in any website.
Although I understand that GAT is a test of general ability & logic of the child & need no preparation (and that I am clueless how training can be done), somehow I feel that a child would be more mentally prepared if he knew what to expect.
Also, the tutees may well have an advantage over others.

To recap, ds went vs & sji ip academics for interviews. Now we are still deciding if we should choose vs or another sch (similar std) nearer to home which ds didn't apply for dsa as it has additional tests on top of gat.

Looking back, we should have just spent our time preparing for psle instead of wasting energy on these dsa exercises as ds didn't have impressive credentials for national exams. :razz:

But overall, it's a good learning journey.
