Can consider taking an Accounting diploma & move onto year 2 in uni accounting.

The gap between A-levels & uni accounting modules was huge during my time in NUS Bizad. I could barely scraped through the later with a distinction in former + a total of 6 months of accounts clerk & IRAS taxation work experience prior to uni. :spank:

Based on my daughter's time there, not all students in MI are necessarily very weak academically. Some of them are returning Singaporeans and want a longer adjustment period. Some might have medical reasons for wanting a slower pace. Some may have been weaker in English and want an extra year to prepare for GP.

I think it was more popular before polys started having so many business/finance courses. Probably too little demand for it at JCs. The only school to offer A level Accounting is MI.

I'm a TJC alumni, but I think VJC may be more prestigious. However, it all boils down to the student and less on the school. If your son is outstanding in his JC, it will speak volumes, much more than the school itself.

Was told, 6-2 is better than 8-4.
It matters when balloting is required for the net aggregate score COP for a course in the JC. Citizenship status first. So if balloting is required for students with same citizenship status (e.g., SC), then yes, better gross aggregate score will be considered (i.e., 6-2 is better than 7-3 which is better than 8-4).

Depend on both factors

1) the performance of the overall cohort, plus

2) the demand, for that particular JC / IB / Polytechnic course

the two IB Independent schools (ACSI + SJI) have lowered their Cut off point (COP), for JAE admission.

The piggies batch (born in 2007), overall, has performed much better than the earlier born in 2006 batch. As such,

- IB (ACSI) has lowered from COP 5 points to 4 points nett, for admission.

- IB (SJI) has lowered from COP 7 points to 6 points nett, for admission.

Is not easy to score 4 points or 6 points, nett. Thus, students who are keen to pursue IB curriculum instead of A-level,


1) it may be easier to get into IB, at PSLE time (aged 12),


2) perhaps easier to seek transfer, at the end of Sec 2 into IB (ACSI / SJI), than to solely
depend (rely) on your O level results.

Actually the fall of NJC over the years is just a sad case. I recalled in its glorious years in the 70s-80s, it is the no 2 most sought after JC.
I went to NJC OH 2018 and actually loved the school for its old Sch charm and the charismatic principal. The boarding Sch smelled a bit musty but couldnt be helped cos of its age. In recent years, I heard the Sch building roofs were leaking etc and maintenance was not properly carried out. Maybe that’s also the reason for its recent decline in popularity (charismatic principal also retired I think).
If is physical premises that need to update, NJC can always renovate her school premises, by shifting the students out to a temporary site. Just like what is happening now to Temasek JC.

After renovation is done, NJC will have a brand new additional building (facilities) built, etc.
Physical premises ... easier to manage.
