To be Frank...even 3rd and 4th choices of yours seem to have a very very low possibility to get in. Just my opinion.

No harm trying the 2 choices. If can't get in you still can appeal.
You should see if can find other schools around 238 and slightly lower for your 3rd, 4th or even 5th choices (e.g. Commonwealth, Chung Cheng Yishun). But at least the last choice must be a safe choice (e.g. COP 230).

1) If let's say CC has 400 places. Their cut off is 241. 380 students chose CC as first choice and all meet the cut off. All 380 will go in. Only then the left over 20 places will be opened to 2nd choice onwards.
It doesn't work in the way that those who chose 2nd choice but with higher aggregate will get in first.
So they clear the first choice pple b4 opening the 2nd choice.

Or

2) Allocation is by the score and not which position you put the schs.
CCHM cop is 241. My son has 245. So even if 1 put num 1-5 schs cop higher than 245 like ri, HCI..., and put CCHM as 6th, my son will still get into CCHM.

May I know which is true and correct on how the system works? Thk u

My bro asks me to try Victoria as they hv Victoria jc so us gd to choose this school.

It does not really matter which choice you put for Chung Cheng if you want to consider the higher rank choices above Chung Cheng.

Since your kid had 245+2, unless Chung Cheng COP goes up from 241 to 247 or higher then he will not get in if he is unsuccessful in the higher rank choices.

Perhaps you can put the following:

1st choice : VS (247)
2nd choice : SJI (245)
3rd choice : Chung Cheng (241)*
4th choice : Maris Stella (236)*
5th choice : Xinmin (235)
6th choice : Zhonghua (234)

Should be very safe. * are the SAP schools where he will get the +2 for bonus points.[/quote]

If different between COP and result is about 1~2 points…you still got chance.

But if different is 3 or more points, I think as parent, we have to be more realistic.

I am sorry to be a wet blanket, but I don't think its advisable to put Crescent Girls n Nan Hua as first 2 choices. Both schools are very popular n the difference of 7 points is a lot. There is no way you can get in.


I suggest that you select schools that are closer to your score of 238. Chances of getting in will be much better.

SJI is known for its holistic development of students. You cant judge a school by its building... By the way its new campus when ready is state of the art design. Very nice

My friend stays at Hougang area. Her ds goes to CCMH by taking train to Serangoon and switch to circle line, alight at Dakota mrt. Journey about 40mins. CCHM has rich Chinese culture and so far her ds likes the school and teachers. I guess in most or in fact all schools, the students has to take a proactive approach to look for teachers for help if they have any doubts on their subjects.

Alternatively, you may want to consider Xin Min or Zhonghua. Hope it helps !

You can try put it as 1st choice as the cutoff difference is around 2points if I am not wrong. You may consider Chung Cheng Main too. Hope it helps.
