It is where the east meets west. HK is very famous for its tall buildings. Don’t worry if you can’t speak Cantonese, because English is widely spoken there. HK is a very modern city, and also safe. It has become a famous tourist destination so of course it’s tourist friendly.

Tour groups from inner cities will be at the theme parks, Victoria Harbour and the Peak. There are also small group or individual repeat tourists in NT and shopping districts in TST and CWB, but you won't notice them if they don't speak. Some of them are on business day trips.

There aren't many mainlanders in Taiwan since Tsai took office. The shuttle bus is an add-on service for Airport Express pax to bridge the last mile between station and Hotel. As per their website:
The Airport Express Shuttle-bus is a complimentary add-on service provided exclusively for Airport Express passengers travelling to / from Airport Station. The Shuttle Bus runs between Hong Kong or Kowloon stations and major hotels, as well as railway interchanges.
To address quizo99 queries:

The taxi would cost you just under HKD 300 from airport to Kowloon. You can refer to this http://www.hongkongairport.com/eng/transport/to-from-airport/taxi.html provided by HKIA for an estimate. Taxi, as you pointed out, is subjected to traffic conditions. Depending on the time of your flight arrival, it may take a long time to get pass the traffic and into Kowloon. The taxi does have the advantage of being able to bring you to the hotel doorstep.

The HK Airport Express train, on the other hand, pretty much runs on time and is very comfortable. From Airport to Kowloon station for 2A2C would cost you HKD 238 (or SGD 42.20) if you http://bit.ly/2jHywmb from an authorized reseller. Hence, you could save some money if you use the Airport Express. However, using the Airport Express requires you to use the shuttle bus to bridge the last mile (as per discussed above) and if your hotel is not one of the listed stops, you will have to walk from the nearest stop.

floppy

Reply to Travel: China - Hong Kong on Wed, 15 Nov 2017 04:49:13 GMT

quizo99:
Hi

Looking for some advice on transport, many thanks in advance.
We are travelling to HongKong/Macau this month.
Is it easier/cheaper to travel to hotel in kowloon on taxi than taking airport express?
I was checking the price, airport express would cost abt $55+ (2A+2C) and still need transfer from station to hotel.
If taxi can bring us direct to the hotel, maybe even another $10 more is ok.
One plus with airport express is speed, taxi subject to traffic?

http://www.mtr.com.hk/en/customer/services/complom_free_bus.html

Airport express shuttle bus is foc.

Cloud Cloud

Reply to Travel: China - Hong Kong on Wed, 15 Nov 2017 04:29:16 GMT
