Will the school send the enrolment information to us? Where to get the booklist, when to buy the uniform etc? Is there be an orientation day this month we just report to the new school on the 4th Jan next year?

I was fortunate that the folder I took from the RGPS stand at the NUSHigh briefing contained all the required information like 2016 GEP booklist, school bus routes, uniform and name tags ordering forms etc.

The orientation for GEP P4 parents at RGPS will be in the first week of school, 8th Jan 2.30pm (tentatively). Different school may have different schedule.

You may call the school up to check with them.

3 students (from SAP schools), place Nanyang primary, as first choice

X : offered GEP, from Pei Hwa Presbyterian (Bukit Timah cluster school)

Y : offered GEP, from Poi Ching (east)
although Tao Nan much nearer, but X prefer Nanyang to Tao Nan, due to affliation at 250 to NYGH


Z : also offered GEP, from Kong Hwa (east)
Z parents also prefer Nanyang to Tao Nan, for the same reason (affliation at 250)

Pei Hwa, Poi Ching and Kong Hwa are SAP schools

in this case, they evaluate based on distance.
very likely, MOE will :
- post Pei Hwa pupil to Nanyang, because Pei Hwa and Nanyang belong to the same \"Bukit Timah\" zone Cluster of primary schools

- post Y and Z to Tao Nan, even though both place NYPS as first choice.
However if both appeal to MOE, if no vacancy, appeal will fail.
but they can continue to appeal into next year (P5 Gep) ... GEP Waitlist for Transfer into Nanyang

After the automation computerised allocation exercise by MOE is over, if still got vacancy, then Principal of GEP school decide who to take, for appeal cases

one more factor -
since Nanyang is over-subscribed many times by popular demand, as a lot of parents want their daughter to enter due to 250 affliation, they might consider, or take into account the performance / results of pupils' P3 Gep screening results for both (English, Maths)

for boys, since no affliation to Hwa Chong, can get posted to Nanyang, Nan Hwa, Tao Nan or Catholic High

I have always thought that if NYPS is not the first choice, then highly unlikely would be posted there given its high subscription. That case could be due to SAP school matching? I think besides ACSJ, ACSP gives priority to missionary schools as well.

Boys. Because ACSP and ACSJ fill like slightly more than 1 class. 4 boys spill to second class. Besides Methodist schools, what are the chances of boys from St Gabriel, Monfort, St Andrew and SJI junior getting into ACSP if the parents put as first choice? Pls share. Thanks

Mostly in GEP, the teachers attribute less importance to marks than to attitude. I even had a teacher who gave us a talk on how, even if we scored 99 percent on a test, it means nothing if we didn’t try our best, whilst if we scored 60 but tried our best, then we should accept it and find a way to improve. GEP does place a lot more importance on child development than it does on marks.

Of course the child’s self-esteem might suffer, but usually it isn’t too hard to bounce back, as long as you keep a good attitude and continue working hard. As long as one has done their best, it truly is enough.
And as for a competitive environment, I don’t think that it’s really that bad. Everyone supports each other, and no one truly gets jealous beyond light-hearted teasing. There’s no shame in falling below baseline, and in fact it happens quite often, especially in the first years.
But all in all, it truly depends on if the child places a lot of pressure on themselves. They should know that it isn’t likely that they’ll be the best in class, but that doesn’t mean that they should stop striving for it. Hopefully, with enough support, the child will learn to grow.
