I do wash & reuse plastic containers esp to store cakes as giveaways of my bakes. I wld put my bakes into small tabao boxes in church & senior activity Centre to avoid cross contamination as oppose to having ppl in into a tray of bakes (I got extra careful after Covid to be careful).

True be told, such plastic hv it’s limitations for recycling, same as drinking PET bottles. These are plastic chemicals & leaching is expected after first few uses, more so when expose to sunlight or heat.

I will stop using for food receptacle after it’s 3rd recycling (no scientific basis for number of time for reuse), just to be sure. Thereafter, I’ve been using for growing herbs & plants. Hv now a batch growing in repurpose PET bottles for a gardening skills sharing event this coming Sept for outreach to the seniors.

I don't think \"non-recyclable\" is a bar to hawkers using it. In any case, the \"recyclable\" plastic containers have to be reused many times and then recycled to make them more eco-friendly than styrofoam (see link below). I don't see many people rinsing and recycling the plastic containers, let alone reusing them - most people just put them straight in the trash. I find it very strange how people feel better about using recyclable products even when they don't recycle them, or biodegradable products when they are never allowed to biodegrade. In Singapore all trash is incinerated and ends up in the landfill.

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/commentary/reusable-containers-not-better-environment-disposable-plastic-recycling-sustainability-2164766

sharonkhoo

Reply to Supermarkets in talks to charge for plastic bags on Thu, 06 Jun 2024 04:29:00 GMT

slmkhoo\" post_id=\"2134747\" time=\"1717634838\" user_id=\"28674:

Some hawkers still use them to bundle up food packets if they use paper or styrofoam packaging.

I thought I read somewhere that styrofoam is not recyclable.
