But they did well, made good, got into good schools with excellent PSLE tscores, studied hard to earn themselves govt scholarships and the rest's history?   Shanmugam and Lui Tuck Yew were extremely poor when they were young.  ESM GCT and Indranee certainly weren't wealthy as far as I could remember. Nor were Lim Swee Say, Lim Hng Kiang and Gan Kim Yong.<br /><br />The not so poor ones are Grace Fu, Ong Ye Kung, Tan Chuan Jin, Josephine Teo, Desmond Lee, Sim Ann, Vivian B, Teo Chee Hean.   Lawrence Wong should be from a middle class family IIRC.  You cannot shut these people out from politics or public service just because their families were doing ok or well to do.
