Hi everyone i’m new here. i’m staying within 1km from Mee Toh school and wish to apply for my kid. Any review on this school? i also heard standard dropped abit. anyone can advise?
This question would probably be better if it was asked in the 2022 P1 Registration Exercise thread.

Further to what ChiefKiasu said, I would add that when someone says 'standard dropped', I would question 'against what?'

Was it standard dropped compared to past years, i.e. % of students in the top bands have reduced, more students are turning out to be 'average', etc. Do note that this comparison is problematic as last year, it's no longer t-score but PSLE AL score and there is no apple-to-apple comparison of AL score.
Was it standard dropped compared to other schools in the neighbourhood, i.e. same %, but other schools doing better.
Was it standard dropped, but then other schools in the neighbourhood also dropped.

IMHO the large number of applicants (easily 2x to 4x the neighbouring schools) suggests that most parents certainly didn't think that the standard has dropped.

I can only tell you by looking at the registration numbers.

There is no indication the \"standard\" has dropped. In fact, over the last 3 years, the number of Phase 2B places has dropped from 93 to 72. Given that Phase 2B is likely to lose more seats this year, there is indeed a risk of balloting this year at Mee Toh at Phase 2B.

As for Phase 2C, the number of places available went down from 133 in 2019 to 80 in 2021. Even though the number applying for Mee Toh in Phase 2C did drop from 199 in 2019 to 152 in 2021, this is not an indication of \"reduced yearning\" for Mee Toh. It's just about parents being realistic about their chances in the face of reduced places.

Mee Toh has always required balloting under 1km for Phase 2C, since 2006. Even though Phase 2C has been \"increased\" by 20 lots, chances are high that those who didn't make it in the earlier phases will try again.

But at least you will have a chance in Phase 2C. Good luck!

I know that MOE has increased places for Phase 2C to 40 spots? And Phase 2B remains at 20 spots. So For Phase 2C's extra 20 spots, is that taken from Phase 2A or Phase 2B?

The total 60 seats is reserved at the start. If there are more seats left in 2A, 1/3 will go to 2B and 2/3 will go to 2C.

Sometimes maybe it’s too early during preschool to know how the child will react and progress in an "elite school". So maybe parents will try to let the child enroll in an "elite school" first and then monitor if the child is happy and able to cope. Subsequently, it’s easier to transfer them out to a neighborhood school then the other way round if they found the child unhappy or unable to cope?

1. 11 schools belong to schools with 0 vacancy for Phase 2C Supplementary in 2020. Fortunate to have seats this year but also likely mean they are going to ballot in this phase.
2. 18 schools have more applications in 2020 than places available in 2021 for Phase 2C Supplementary.
3. 10 other schools balloted in 2020 but has more places available this year.

One of them is a 35-year-old lawyer who, despite having secured a place for her daughter at Rosyth under Phase 2A1 in July, made the unconventional decision to enrol her child at Marymount Convent instead.

Ms Ang, who declined to give her full name, said that Rosyth, one of the most competitive schools to get in, was a “natural choice” as they live within 1km of it and she was an alumni.

Balloting took place even at Phase 2A1 at Rosyth School this year.

There was also the pressure from family and friends who gushed about how it is a good school and that she would be “foolish to give it up”.

But Ms Ang ultimately withdrew with her child’s interest in mind.

She described her child as a bright and perfectionist girl who had not reacted well to a highly academic environment in preschool. Marymount Convent would be a better fit for her, said Ms Ang.

“She is already very hard on herself. I want an environment where she is not going to focus on one benchmark to measure herself by,” said Ms Ang.
