Hi,

since one parent mentioned that NJC is ranked 2nd last amongst IP JCs, hence I am trying to explain where are the possible disparities. Intake is quite good for PSLE (almost the same as COP for HCI for example) but apparently A level output is not as good. It could possibly be due to the JAE intake which is the majority and the COP of NJC for JAE is definitely worse off than HCI for example. Hence, what I am trying to say is that we can't really say that NJC is not value adding to the IP students who entered in Sec 1. What NJC form teachers told us (parents) is that since sec 1, their main objective to is work our kids towards the end goal A Levels and pacing students to it.

As you rightfully pointed out, NYJC is up and coming JC, there was also one article about this school this year. This JC is like the 3rd JC in the rank after RI and HCI. Their JAE COP is also catching up RI and HCI. I do have friends' kids who qualified for IP but rather go to CCH for the affiliation to NYJC. Different students choose their paths differently for various reasons.

This 3rd (third) JC that u mentioned, is ... Nanyang Junior College.

The reason why COP for JAE (National JC) has dropped in the past years, is because ...

many JAE students have flocked over to both

Eunoia Junior College

and to

Nanyang Junior College.
To many of these JAE excited students, they find joining EJC and NYJC more attractive, than NJC.

Example

For this year (2024) JC (1) intake -

while the COP for JAE (Hwa Chong + RI) is nett 4 (for Science stream),
that

for Nanyang JC, is nett 5 (for Science stream) and

for Eunoia JC, is nett 6 (for Science stream).

For National JC, it is nett 7 (for Science stream).

National JC can check.
Every batch of JC (1) JAE students, how many are there ? And, how many are already existing Year 5 IP (NJC) students?

If the number of JAE students joining NJC is not a lot, only a handful, compared to the Total number of existing Year 5 IP (NJC) who have joined since Sec 1,
then,

the performance of overall NJC A-level results, is still very much dependent upon how well prepared, are the IP (NJC) students, for A-level.

One good reference example to take a look at, is ... Dunman High and River Valley High. Every JC (1) batch of JAE students inside DHS and RVH, the intake of JAE students is very small. Around 80 students, thereabout ?
Hence,

the performance of A-level results inside (Dunman High + River Valley High) overall, is still very much largely dependent upon how well, these two IP schools have prepared their IP students for A-level, in their 6 years programme. And not so much dependent upon the small, little trickle inflow of JAE students, in JC (1).

Yes.

From the look of above posting, starting wef. this year (2024), National Junior College is indeed inviting

scholars (students) from overseas countries, welcoming them to join NJC, to sit for their O-level. Otherwise, the content printed won't explicitly ask these scholars to \"repeat Grade 9\".

However,
opening up this unique O level class, apply only to this group of overseas scholars. It is NOT detailed nor explicit enough to

conclude that

NJC also intend to open up O-level classes, to

rest of the entire end-of-Sec 2 Mainstream NJC IP cohort, to let them come in to join this group of scholars, in their Upper Secondary (3 & 4) -

if supposed (or assuming that)
some of these end of Sec 2 cohort NJC students are also keen (interested) to exit out of IP (NJC) programme, having tried out or experienced 2 years of IP already inside NJC themselves, decided to switch over to take O level instead.
Why ?

Because
after taken O-level, they can have more options available now to choose from, like (example) :-

join IB (ACSI / SJI) via JAE
or

join another Junior College,
or

go to Polytechnic.

Why ?

Because these unique O-level classes opened up inside NJC,

wef. 2024 (thid year), has a purpose.

It is in joint Parnership with St Joseph Institution, another school, to lure & to attact overseas scholars to come over to Singapore, to study.

Anyway, as our minister says, all schools are good schools. How our kids turn out is also very much dependable on them. One at the \"best\" school can also turn out worse off than another one at the \"worst\" school.

I believe culture is equally, if not more important than results, it will help to shape our kids.

Hi parent, I think most students do not have tuition in JH1. As NJC math and sci syllabus are taught more \"advance\", hence it is hard to find tuition centres unless you go for private lessons. Also, I do know NJ has consolidation lessons (like remedial lessons after school) for those who did not do that well for Math and Sci.

NJC Sec follows MOE JC calendar, so it will start a week later than Sec schools. School will also end a week later than other Sec schools. Also, you are right, sec schools will end earlier than what is stated in MOE calendar for end of year. For this year, NJC sec 1 ended on 3 Nov.

Hi, yes indeed NJC has limited CCA selections for Sec levels and no uniform groups. As each sec level is a small cohort so I guess can’t have too many CCA choices to be offered to the students. On the other hand, each class size is about 30 or lesser students, hence, it maybe a more conducive class size for learning.

To parents who are still considering if u want to choose NJC, just to share that NJC is a very down to earth school. The students are taught well with the right moral and the school motto is “Service with Honour”. It is a very friendly, sharing and caring environment. The parents who penned the last few posts really wrote what it is like about the school. There is also no locker in the whole school and no theft thus far according to the Year Head. A great place to send your kids. We have no regrets sending our kid to this school. I do hear last year choice 2 NJC, the student was balloted out. Good luck to all of u!

Good to hear from you about the vibes in NJC. The only qualms I have with NJC is the selection of CCAs. No uniform groups ah. Nevertheless, still good school to send kids there. I believe if choice 2 got balloted out, it is those with AL7 and put NJC as 2nd choice. Seems like those who indicate NJC as first choice if they have AL7 would have an almost sure chance of getting in.

We used to go to learning lab for science but like what one parent said TLL doesnt encourage us to sign up with them because the syllabus taught by NJC is more in depth.

1. does NJC follow the secondary or JC calendar/hols? i understand that the start date is later? and also secondary school will end school 2 weeks before the official school holidays start, cos of the O levels. is this the same for NJC for A levels?
2. can you share the Year 1 booklist?
3. any information which you can share about the boarding program? when do they get to experience this?

All students qualified to take HMT will be asked for consent to take HMT or not. There are CL classes as well. To add, majority are taking HMT since students entered NJC by score will qualify to take HMT regardless whether they did HMT at pri school.

1 set of blouse+skirt is enough. PE t-shirt and shorts suggest to get 4 each.
