WearMask,
Your DD knows better. The good results that she got was the consistency of her studies that went through various stages of the studying process in school. If she is able to take stress and handle the load of the subjects she is studying then you shouldn't be worrying.

Example my son from a neighbourhood Primary and Secondary School, has been doing fine in his studies and exams. Obtained a 2 pointers after offsetting from his bonus points (HCL subject) at 'O' level and got in to an elite JC. The environment has become very challenging, tight competition, peers pressure, taking subjects at higher levels and with very minimal coaching from the teachers. It was totally a strange new environment and he has to begin coping with it from day one. All his peers were from their affiliate primary and secondary school. They were well prepared for this new environment 2 years before coming into their JC. So what do you think of an ordinary 'O' level student from an ordinary neighborhood school? His peers were a mixes of races and also foreign, they were all smart, bright and ambitious. They ace through all exams with a breeze. Well, my son has to study extremely hard to be on par with them else he will be considered an outcast of his class and a shame.

It was of no fault of his \"elite\" school and the smart students. Yes, it was a challenging and stressful environment but it takes time for him to familiarize the ground. Fortunately his earlier schooling days has taught him how to juggle and spread out his time to study productively. Else he would be burnt-out by stress and worries.

From then his peers and teachers respected him for his courage and abilities. Those that is not prepared to be in the \"elite\" school should not try to join such schools. They are better off studying in a normal JC with teachers and students that are helpful, friendlier and approachable.

So your DD knows much better about her abilities. If she has accepted to go ahead with her choice then I believe she has the determination to do well.

Desmond Tang
