Need advice. I am planning to go to Taipei Oct nxt yr with my family of 4 (Hubby, 18yrs old boy & 12yrs old gal).
As it is my 1st time there & seem lost. Anyone can suggest a hotel that is convenient in Ximending & near to the mrt stn. Don’t want to waste too much time walking.
Driver charge NTD3,500 for 8 hours service to bring us around , extra hr at NTD500 , is it reasonable ? From Taoyuan airport to hotel, can we just take a taxi or should we hire a driver ? His charges seem expensive at NTD2,500 for both ways.

Since it's next Oct (assuming mainland tour groups are still not allowed by China to visit Taiwan by then), you'll have many to pick from TripAdvisor. Just select near Ximending station: Muzik, Diary of Ximen, Westgate (pricey), Orange, amba, Via, Cho, etc all will pop up. Taipei has many new & trendy boutique hotels, and they are cheap.

Besides Fu Hong, there's Jianhong (Bib Gourmand) next block and Ay-Chung Mian Xian 阿宗面线 is just around the corner. Taipei's famous bubble tea brands are 陈三鼎 、春水堂。I don't like Sharetea and 一芳. The rest are rebranded as something else in Singapore or are already available here.

You can just hop onto a licensed cab from Taoyuan airport. It's about NTD1000+ according to airport website. Taipei cabbies are extremely hospitable, so don't worry.

If driver is only bringing you from Taipei hotel to Shifen Lantern street, Shifen waterfall, Jiufen old street, Yehliu, that should be NTD 3500-4000 only for 8h according to 2018 market rate.

You don't need a pte driver for city attractions (Shilin night market, Tamsui old street + fisherman's wharf, TP 101, National Museum, CKS Memorial, Monga, Longshan) within Taipei as all are accessible by subway or short taxi rides. But maybe you need a cab for Yangmingshan and Beitou, but we took the public bus.

I only know of Rainbow Hotel right smack in Ximending. Walked past it but never stayed in it. Heard that coaches can't stop there so you will need to drag your luggage to the hotel lobby by yourself. Since you are getting a driver, you can check with them.

If you like Beef noodles, google for the famous Fu Hong beef noodles. It is near Ximending.

your driver charges very reasonable. mine charged me ntd4500 for 8 hr. for airport transfer, its a bit ex. mine is ntd1100 for one way.
