I don’t really recommend the book (even though many parents rave about it) - I don’t think it provides very clear guidance.<br /><br /><br />If this is the correct technique, then it seems the model makes use of “cutting up” the model to show that the transferred amount actually contains smaller numbers that you can manipulate to calculate the answer. <br /><br />I’m not certain this is the correct technique though. Gotta wait for my son’s school teacher to teach them. So far not yet.
