      kiasiparent:

There are over 150 primary schools in singapore and each school send in about 20 top maths students on average. This will make up 3000 contestants.

Of course, some schools will send in less students to compete while some school like rosyth, nanyang will send in more than 100 students each...

This year, Nanyang Primary pupils took the competition at NYPS' own premise instead of at HCI. Not sure about other schools.

      Hi Fairy

For my boy, Ai Tong they also took the competition in their school.

      Hi,

I have just registered my child for NUS High (she wanted it). Any idea what sort of test will be given?

Thanks and looking forward to hear from experienced mums/dads out there.

      Hi mummyjoyce

I have registered my boy for the NUSH DSA too. We attended the open house last week, the introduction abt the school by the Principal was good.
My husband feel that this NUSH is good and my boy love it but it seem that DSA is important and they seem to select the students thru DSA not PSLE result.

I heard from a friend that her son last year went for DSA and his comments was Math easy but science difficult need to read widely. Read more abt science I think it will help.

Hope both our kids selected by the school thru DSA.

      Hi Mandarin

Tx for the advice. Your point of the school is important and value to us, we will attend the ASC(I) talk this month.

Yes, I agreed with you that the secondary school is important bcos that is the period that the kid develope in youth and the friends they mix with will influence their behaviour.

      Thank for advice again.

      Mandarin:
My son is in ACS(I) year 1 IP this year. So far, he is very motivated and happy in school.

I can perhaps share more about his course work. Most of the subjects taken are very similar to Express stream, albeit with an accelerated pace. For English, it is taught in 2 parts, Literature and the usual English grammar (including comprehension), it is called Language Arts. He also takes Life Science (which is essentially Biology) and Physical Science (which is a combination of Physics and Chemistry) as 2 different subjects. Other than that, the other core subjects are pretty standard.

In addition to the above examinable subjects, he is also taking the following :
      (1) ePOD - An elementary Philosophy subject
      (2) ISO - a research project, this year's theme is YOG
      (3) Computer Studies
      (3) Enrichment Program - half a year on Odyssey of the Mind and the other half year on another option to be selected from a wide ranging topics such as Introduction to German, Introduction to Archaeology to Carrom, Snorkelling etc.

Students may also take MEP (Music Elective), RSP (Regional Studies) and 3rd Language if they have the interest and are selected.

You may want to note that every student must opt for 2 CCAs, one from Uniform Group, and another from Sports/Clubs/Performing Arts. My son comes home around 6.30pm up to 4 days a week.

It is quite a demanding school life but I believe it is also at the same time, quite enriching and enjoyable.

Let me know if there is anything else you would like to know.
      Hi Mandarin

Tx for the info. My boss girl is in the 5th years and he feedback is that the IB programme is good and the student is more involve in project.

My boy is not a GEP student he only make it to the 2nd round during the GEP test but he find that the student in the school teacher too slow. He hope that to contribute more ideal to the subject not just listening to the teacher.

I don't whether this is good or bad but I know that ACS(I) will take in more students from the ACS Pri and ACS Jr. So the chance is low.

P6 is really a stressful year for student & parent.

      Hi Sally,

I think you are referring to NUS High DSA application - which has to be register yourself. I was referring to NUS High Maths Olympaid registration - understand from some parents that this has to be registered by schools. A parent told me that cannot register thru' tuition center anymore. I've not checked, anyway, school will do registration if kid qualifies for this.
      Hi Pen88n

Sorry, too stress recently. Yes, the NUSH Maths Olympiad has to register thru school because the 1st round the school will collect the paper from NUSH & the student will sit the competition in their Pri School.

Understand NUS high has changed policy and require the students to register thru' school only. That's the latest I've heard from some parents who are trying to register their kids this year.

Are u sure? I have go thru the DSA Admission Process and see below

      1. Registration can be carried out under the section ‘Online Application’ on this website.

      2. For those with no computer access, computer terminals will be set up at the NUS High School campus for applicants to register online.

      3. Registration fee is $50, payable online through eNet & major credit cards. For cash or cheque, please proceed to NUS High School for payment after online registration.

      4. You may fill in a hardcopy of the application form and submit it to our school’s Administration Office. We will input the data online for you. The registration fee for manual registration is $70. Hardcopies of the application form may be obtained at our School’s Annex Office.

I have actually register for my boy and filled up all the necessary info just waiting for his HCI Maths Olymiad competition result b4 submit.

    • RE: Is PSLE so important?

      Anxiousmom:
      Hi Sally,

Tks for your suggestion. I did ask my gal which sch she intends to go and she told me is Cedar Girls. So I looked at Cedar's cut off point for last year was 244 so i told her that with 245 she is actually at the borderline edge of going in... Anyway, she still has a year to brush up... and hopefully by then she can make it.

Good luck to your boy who is taking his PSLE this year. Guess the school did give them alot of pressure?

      Hi

Yes, the school do give them pressure and also depend on the teacher and child.

Make good use of this year to prepare your girl next year. All The Best.
