Hi, heard from my colleague that CMA fee has increase from $250 to $270 for 10 lessons already.. She feel very tough cos of the fee & she would like her son to join in the CC abacus which using one hand method & of cos the fee is very much cheaper..

I paid $108 + $10 for the training material. My 6yo old daughter has been learning abacus for a year & she is now at advance stage where multiple has comes. She has no problem in addition, subtraction & multiple of 3 digits... division will be coming very soon & she has already know how to do the sums as well.. I'm so proud of her & never regret to withdrawn her from CMA... (I can sit in with her in CC but not in CMA, so not sure how she progress in CMA previously). I withdrawn her becos of the fee & also the books not able to return to us after my daughter had finished)

Forgot to add : The duration is from 415pm to 6pm but teacher always prolong the duration to end at 630pm..
(different stage different date & time)
        Hi Ms Tan,

May I know if you have asked the CC teacher if there's any real difference in the one and two hand method? Although I don't get to sit in with my son, but from the books he's doing, I also get to learn the 2 hands method. I personally think the method is great, but the pages and pages of repeated homework is really a chore on my active boy that does not like to sit down to do his work. But I perservere and still insist he goes through the course...wonder if I'm doing the right thing? I do see progress and it's such a pity for him to drop it after learning for one year.

By the way, anyone that needs another 8% recommedation fee, can quote me,

I personally tik that CMA is good. The teacher will give me feedback every end of the lesson about my daugher progress.

My daughter, K1, hv attend CMA mid of this year. I can see some improvement in her memory.

Before she joined CMA, I always have difficulties teaching her to learn her english & chinese spelling.

After she joined CMA, somehow her speed in memorise the spelling words have improved.

But I heard some parents saying that Abacus dun help when the kids reached Pri 1.

A lots of parent I noe have actually stop their kids from attending Abacus once their kids go to Primary 1.

Yah my son is going to P1 next year too, but as he does his CMA homework so slowly, he accomplishes very little each week. thus, he’s only at the summation and subtraction of 3 numbers stage. It really looks like a pity to stop. Any advice from parents that had their child do CMA beyond P1 or for more than 2 years? any help or progress?

                Hi Yjjjj

Do u ever ask ur son whether he enjoy going to Abacus?

Cos the reasons some parents told me that they stop Abacus for their Pri 1 kids is bcos they dun wan to impose too much stress to the kids.

Cos now Pri 1 have a lots of homeworks to do.

As for me, most likely I will stop my daughter from attending Abacus end of next year before she go Pri 1.

                  Hi Evelyn,

I suppose you gave me the answer. No harm stopping the program. And if he shows that he wants to pursue further later, then sign up again. I still feel it’s such a pity though, the program is good, just that it’s too repetitive for a child, especially an active boy, at that young age. Maybe when they are older, they’ll be able to appreciate. Those CMA kids featured on TV are older anyway, around 8 years and above.

But I’ll still welcome feedback from other parents on the long term benefits of the program, if they have experienced it for themselves.

                  Thanks!

                    Hi yjjj

Is ur son attending twice a week program?
If yes, maybe you can consider to change the class to once a week.
At least, not so stressful to ur son.

Previously, i oso enrol my daughter to the twice a week class. I found that she can’t really cope. So in the end, I change her lesson to once a week. (Although got to pay a bit more)

I still monitoring my daughter progess. Cos next year, she will be in K2. And tis kindergarten she attending got english & chinese spelling weekly. And I heard some parents from K2 saying that there will be more homeworks for the children in K2. I dun really want to stress her out.

If necessary, I might stop her Abacus early too.

do we have to pay more if you change back to once a week?
Actually, My girl likes her centre teacher and enjoys her class… but still my choice for her is once a week… afterall she is just 3 plus!

                        Hi JHJC

I tik the centre charge additional $50 more for once a week lesson.

Wow, I’m surprised that u enrol ur girl so young. (Must be a smart little girl)

In fact, I wan to enrol my son who is also 3 yrs old plus to Abacus class. But the teacher tik he too young for it. The teacher recommend me to get him enrol when he’s 4yrs old.
