      Dadofgirl,

Why the magic figure of $800?

For girls, the only option you have is ACSI (which MGS will start offering thru train to beginning with next year's Sec 1 batch). Or if your dd is arts-oriented, SOTA. Fees for ACSI and SOTA are about $300-400.

      Affordability!

My DD in Sec 3 already ... so ACSI is only options... For that you have to do really well at O-level.
SOTA won't take O-level students for just 2 years

SJI will be taking in their first IB intake at yr5 next year ie 2013. So in 2 years time ur dd can consider SJI as an option. Since it is a fresh intake, i.e no feeder students from sji, I think the b:g ratio might be well balanced. Fees wise I think it will be comparable to acsi, maybe slightly more. Do look out for their open house to find out more.

I think SJI International gives out scholarships to local students who want to study IB. I guess their standard should be ok as they produced a perfect scorer this year if I’m not wrong.

for girls.... at @ 800 SG dollars per month...

ACS course is great but girls to boys ratio is 1:5 ...that makes it not suitable for girls.

ACS-I is @ 1900 dollars per month...which is too expensive.
It seems clear that if you are humanities student & not likely to take Engineering at UNI, it is better to do IB . Ofcourse if O level result is great & if you qualify for humanites scholership(MOE) at schools like HCI, RI, VJC, NJC ACJC, but what if you don't make cut.
Are there any new option emerged for IB? ACS(Independent) & SJI are definitely option,

You don't need to be a humanities scholar to do a humanities-based combination do you?

But won't it be diffcult to get goods mentors to bring you to next level if you go to JC that are not running humanities programs(Scholerships). That' why we have special schools like SOTA(Arts) & Singapore sports schools. Just using it these example for humanities..

SJI is the only option , if you have daughter & wishes enrol her for IB... Current ratio is 50/50 & schoo fee is affordable @ 800 SGD per month

                    From the SJI site :-

From January 2013, SJI will admit its pioneer batch of 80 boys and girls for the 2-year pre-university studies in its International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme* (IBDP). The IBDP is suitable for academically able students who have pursued their secondary education on the GCE ā€˜O’ track or the Integrated Programme (IP) track. As the annual intake for 2013 - 2016 will be limited to 80 students, admission to the IBDP is expected to be highly competitive.

This is SJI, not SJI International

but honestly, if I would go for ACSI IB program if really keen. More established and the facilities like Labs are all there.

SJI will have to undergo renovation first from 2014 - 2015. that means your DD will spend 1 year in Bishan and 1 year back at malcolm road

This year intake make cut with(9-2) 7 points L1R5... ACSI cut off is 5 points. I guess , this is only option even with renovation hassels
