Hello parents,
I need some advice regarding primary school education. My DS1 is in CHS, P2 this year. However I do not understand the primary school system very much these days with so many changes and would like to seek advice.
In Pri 1 and Pri 2 the children stay in the same class. But for P3, my DS1 came back to say that teacher told them they will be allocated to their class based on results. In the old days we go by the alphabetical order so you can know your son level and whether he needs further help in his studies. But these days they used the different names so how do we know? And I have the wrong impression that there is no more streaming but it seems streaming is now replaced by banding?
Can anyone also direct me where I can read up on banding?
I was told that these days students are group into band 1, band 2 and band 3. what is the cut off point to decide the different bands? is it the same for every school or different?
What happens in CHS for P3? They stay in the same class for P3 and P4 and then for P5 and P6 its another round of re-grouping?
Hope to receive some pointers or even directive on reading up.
Thank you. -
2am:
Last year, my boy's teacher told me that P2 to P3 streaming was based on \"mixed ability\" (i.e. not based on academic results). From what I observe, the P2 boys seemed to be streamed according to their CCA. There is another streaming at the end of P3, but I do not know the basis for that streaming. Does anyone know?Hello parents,

From rumour p2 will be split by CCA but base on our understanding neither CCA nor based on academic results. They were stream by random and mix ability.

Hi all,
We went to Pri 1 Orientation on Sat for 2015 intake. Greeted by a very loooooong :salute: row of polite pupils from the drop off point to (all the way) the hall! Impressed by this efforts! Felt welcomed and warm even we were running late....my worried mind was taken off by these cute smiley boys!
Felt the excitement after this orientation, but not sure from my boy...haha.
Well, next year will be filled with more challenges and i hope my boy will enjoy his school and make more friends! :rahrah: -
Hello
My boy will be returning to join P2 in Jan 2015 (he is currently on leave of absence). Is there anyone whose boy is joining P2 and new to the school? -
Stage 2A1 but not living within 2km of the school - really very risky?
I really cannot find a suitable place nearby hais.
