      lexis:
PE attire can be bought from the school bookshop. I have called the supplier of the shirt/khaki shorts before and they said they don't sell PE shirt/shorts.

Are the boys and girls PE shorts of the same type or cutting?

English is a compulsory subject for all, so DS still get to write GP stuff.

        CatMoon,

SMTP (Science & Mathematics Talent Programme) is part of the four special programmes for CSE (Centre for Scholastic Excellence). The bulk of students will choose to remain in IP for Sec 3 /4. Promotion criteria for CSE is MSG below 2 for all programmes. For SMTP, A1 for Eng, Math and Science based on Sec 2 year end results are required. For BSP, A1 for Eng and Chinese. Humanities Programme (HP) A1 for Eng, Geog/History. Among all the special programmes, HP is the most hard core and demanding one. I think there is only one class this year. I know HCI is well recognised for her humanities programme. All CSE students must engage in a year-long research project of their chosen programme with the guidance of expert mentors. The students undergo expanded curriculum as compared to IP. Opting for CSE should be guided by personal interest and passion in the selected field of study. I have known some very bright students with stellar Sec 2 results and they chose to remain in IP because the nature of the curriculum suits them better.

Agree with you, mommylow. Passion and interest are very impt. My DS did qualify for CSE, but he thinks that he does not have strong passion on the prog under CSE, thus he choose to stay in IP. With the \"extra\" time given , he can participate for more activities in school and gain other exposure.

Song22.. he is not actually interested in any! haha. but of all the 3 (Bicultural, Humans and Sci/math) i think if any, he is most suited to SM - def not Bicultural.

then again.. i think he treasures his free/play time too much to get involved in MORE projects. Didn't Dr Hon say that if you want to have some time to pursue your own interests, best to just do IP?

But just curious what other parents think of CSE, especially if their sons have gone through it and are at JC/graduated already.

Yea, would be great to know šŸ˜„

My DS will be taking the A levels this year. He was in the CSE HP. From the experience, I would say that if your DS's MSG qualifies, the CSE is good training, provided he is interested in the chosen subjects, is self-motivated and has self-discipline. All the best. :rahrah:

              Hi fellow parents,

Would like to find out more about Humanities Programme.
              1) what are the criteria to apply to be accepted for HP at JC1? For students from other IP schools.
              2) can elaborate and give some details how demanding it is.

My DD is in year 4 in an IP and is considering to apply.

              Would appreciate the advice.

              Thank you very much šŸ™‚

Just curious to know about the CSE. What actually is benefit about it? The kids will eventually go up to JC1 after they completed the 2yrs of CSE?

I am not very sure but it may be worthwhile to check with the school, perhaps via DSA. I personally know someone who transferred from RGS to HCI to attend the HP starting Year 5.

                      hi..

What does \"The bulk of students will choose to remain in IP for Sec 3 /4\" mean?
Understand Dr Hon mentioned briefing session towards later part of the year for year 2 parents/students, will be great to find out from those who have experienced already, what is mapped as understand Sec 2 YE results are very important?

                      Thanks in advance

I guess there are only 2 or 3 "special" classes for SMTP as the boys need to score MSG 2.00 and below by end of Sec 2. So, majority of the boys will continue the IP route.

Same as other secondary schools where streaming is done end of Sec 2.
