Anyone with compo marking to share on SA1? I heard marked by other teachers instead of own.
-
for p3, i know chinese compo definitely mark by own teacher.
I think english too.
For upper pri, not sure.
I think teachers in general are quite standard in their marking…do you expect a lot of difference? -
Hello parents,
Perhaps this might shed light.
Regardless of level,
The compositions are marked by their own class teacher as well as a "second" marker from another class of the same level. This is to maintain the "fairness" and standardisation of the marking. This eliminates any bias in the marking.
Call it quality control.
Before that, the teachers will go through one round of standardisation marking together as a level. Meaning, the teachers will come together to mark random scripts of different quality from different classes to do bench marking, before arriving at an acceptable band for both content and language.
All in all, the teachers would have marked about 100 scripts over a period of 3 weeks. (bench marking scripts, class scripts, "2nd marking" scripts)
So please do show your appreciation during PTM to the teachers this coming end May, because I know I will.

Thank you for the sharing - A reliable source & muska.
Now I know why DS only got back the paper 2 but not paper 1 yet.. since it needs to be reviewed by another teacher.
From my observation, I find the marking of Chinese composition very strict. In one of the recent classwork (similar story line and writing style), my DS scored 18/20, marked by his china tutor from a relatively well-known Chinese enrichment school. However, his class teacher only gave 13/20. He said teacher read his composition to the class so this score is quite ok already and already the highest among his group. He said many got 10 or 11 and some failed. This means either Pei Chun's Chinese standard is too high or my DS's class standard is too low, that's why 13/20 is already one of the better ones.
Anyway, I feel marking needs to be realistic, based on a P3 standard. After all, aren't the students expected to write 50 words only. Unless drastically out of context, I feel most of them should get at least 14-15 and not a borderline grade. -
precious2lee,
For english compo, we’ll never get it back. Only know the marks unless its those good for level/class distribution.
I know many other school even kept compo& oral marks from parents to prevent dispute. So PCPS at least is doing something for us to know our kiddos weakness.
For chinese compo, we can get back the papers. I certainly find pcps marking std for chinese is very lenient…at least to my ds class last yr… -
Thanks for all the contribution. Heard P4 Eng compo badly done and so far no news yet.

Is it my kid or the P4 Maths paper is difficult?
Or the topics were not covered yet?
:faint: -
All covered as far as I know. Some got 100 too. Average for my child’s class if not wrong, is 74 or 79 according to teacher.

Sounds familiar... Maybe our kids in same class.
:celebrate:
The average and those 100marks seem very far though.
Need to play catch up.
:xedfingers: -
How about P3 Math? Any clue on the average score? Heard from DS only 2 students from his class got full marks and a few failed.
Is there any feedback regarding composition? While waiting to pick up my DS this afternoon, I overheard some parents/ grandparents saying that their children/grandchildren did very badly. At first I thought my DS did very badly too but after hearing the conversation, it seems he's still ok, though it is still very disappointing mark.. Sigh! :imdrowning:
Now, I finally understand why people say there's a big jump from P2 to P3 and a bigger jump from P4 to P5.
