Any idea how the school sort out the new girls into the Primary 1 classes?

Some say via home-distance. Some say via the Phase the child enters e.g Alumni grouped in one class, PV in another class etc…also based on the second language…
Any experience mummy has any idea on this?
      Thanks in advance!

          Hi all

Anyone can share what happens during Speech Day? I hear that it’s a holiday for students except for award winners. Besides the Bilingual Award as mentioned by phptthp, what other awards are there?

          Thanks in advance!

            Hi all

Anyone can share what happens during Speech Day?

I hear that it's a holiday for students except for award winners.

Besides the Bilingual Award as mentioned by phptthp, what other awards are there?

            Thanks in advance!
On Speech day (prize award day), for P1 -

            a)
one pupil (out of entire Nine P1 classes : 1A to 1I), invited by Principal to go up the stage inside school hall, to collect Bilingual award prize.

            This pupil :
has been identified and approved unanimously, by all nine classes of P1 (English & Mother Tongue) Tr.

            Initially, what happened was :-
Each P1 class (English & Mother tongue Tr) nominated one pupil, per class.
(9 pupils' names nominated /submitted, since Total 9 P1 classes.)

Later, all these P1 language Tr met up to discuss :
amongst 9 students nominated, eventually narrow down to only one student, selected.
Who from your class do you feel, is the best student for Chinese, for English ? why ?
Who deserve the Bilingual prize, the most ?

This Bilingual award prize : not easy to get.
If pupil only excel in one language, either English or Mother Tongue, then easy.
In RGPS, there is no lack of students, very good in English.
Plenty around ! Even from P1, they speak eloquently.

if got English award prize : too many candidates, can qualify.
thus, difficult to choose who ?

            Very good in Chinese :
lesser, because most students seldom speak Mandarin to parents, daily.
Unless Sg parents take the initiative at home to make sure child speak Mandarin often, or they happen to be China students, either one parent or both parents from China.
Some of these China parents are Parent Volunteer, here.
In one of the classes, one China father is a teaching Professor in Chinese studies, at NTU (local university), with younger daughter P1, older daughter in Rgs Secondary
Yes, inside Rgps, there are China students in our midst, some are PR, some converted to Sg citizen.

if got Chinese award prize :
China students tend to have an advantage, unless can find Sg students just as good, on par with them.

But, to be good concurrently in both English & Chinese : not easy.
            Hence, this Bilingual award.

            b)

Pupils who are role model pupils in their respective P1 classes, go up the stage, as their name Being called out one by one, to collect their \"Role Model\" certificate.

            This certificate collected :
can then be used for DSA purposes later in P6, as part of supportive documents submitted, to prove that pupil show good, exemplary good character moral values.

(as each pupil go up stage to collect cert, their parents seated below the stage, invited by Principal through email to attend Speech day award, can take snapshot of their precious darling daughter, using camera.)

Yes (in our school), parents help their daughters to start accumulating certificate(s) for future DSA (Direct discretionary Secondary School Admission) use, from as young as P1. We buy a A4 sized file, ready to keep our children cert.

It is also from this pool of Role model pupils that -
            Prefects are selected.

In one year : there are 4 Term (Term 1 to Term 4)
At end of each Term : from every P1 class, one pupil identified to be the Role model pupil, for that particular Term.
Then, photograph of that model pupil per class, will be pasted onto a notice board in front of entrance to the canteen, for every pupil to see.

            c)
As for Top 3 students per P1 class academically, based on Total of 3 subjects (Eng, Maths, Mother Tongue), No, they do not need to go up the stage, to collect.

Instead, inside the P1 classroom, Form Teacher will pass an envelope quietly / discreetly, to each of these 3 pupils, but won't alert nor announce to the entire P1 class, so rest of the classmates won't know what's going on.
Form Tr just walk quietly across to pupil's desk, pass an envelope to them.
Unless some sharp pupils stay alert observed this, wondering why Form Tr gave out envelope to only 3 pupils in class, rest of the class won't know.

(in other P1 classes : not sure whether their Form Tr got announced or not.
But in my kid's class last year, everything hush hush, secretive)

These 3 students who receive envelope (with a letter inside), won't know who is first, second nor third. Letter content won't mention whether pupil is #1, #2, nor #3.
Unless these pupils choose to compare the Total score, from their report card.
which some of them did (ie. the Top 3 students compare, amongst themselves) :
then realized Oh ! there was actually a tie between them (29X), same Total marks scored, for 3 subjects (upon 300).
They just know they are within the Top 3, in the class.

For P1 : in some classes, there are students that scored full 300 marks, for 3 subjects.

Other level : P2 to P6, not sure what prize they receive.

But some ex Rgps pupils, came back :
wearing RGS Secondary school dark navy blue uniform, went up stage, to collect prize.
perhaps Top student at Psle one year ago, now Secondary 1.

            d) \"Rgps girl\" award

            This award is very subjective.

Tr will not disclose the criteria behind how they select pupils for this award, even when parents ask (secretive)

The \"Rgps girl\" award, is one of the highest honored award, in school.

this year, the first student who board school bus in Tampines to Rgps daily, is 5.40 am

will be good if Tampines residents can form car pool, to allow child to sleep more

(School bus fare from Tampines to Rgps, is $230 per month (2 way)
Not sure if got change in costs of sch bus fare, next year)

Also, if child take school bus home after CCA finish on CCA day, is another extra charge of $50 per month (on top of $230), Total is $ 280 per month
