[Bishan] Primary Schools

Mum2Gals:
Yeah how I wish I can get into AiTong here, my in-law is 1 km away from Aitong but my clan membership is less than a year and that make me not qualified.............only at Phase 3, which is of no chance at all!My hubby is alumni in Ai Tong so we can get in at Phase 2A. But everyone in my family is against it because of the distance (6km). There are good schools within 1 km of my area but all needs balloting this year.
Can I register in Ai Tong first, then in Phase 2C, check it out whether there will be confirmed balloting in the nearby school, then decide what to do ?
Will the neighbourhood school be able to tell me if I am likely to end in ballot?
Will I end up like a headless chicken ? -
Hi galsmum,
Since your in-law within 1km, isn’t it falls under 2c ? -
Yes… given the lateness of the situation, I think you are making the right decision here.

Does anyone has children in this school coz I’d like to find out if the standard is very high and the students are often stressed out. I’m considering this for my ds and wonder if he is suitable to be in such an environment. Understand schools with long history are usually more demanding, so just want to be prepared. Any info is appreciated. Tx!

Catholic High is easily amongst the top 10 Primary schools in Singapore. It is both GEP and SAP. If you want to send your son to the best, you have to be prepared to be stressed. These schools don't take lightly to underperforming students. -
Somehow, CHS has very low profile so I wasnt sure if their overall standard as high as those popular schools like Nanyang, Raffles etc.

I have been reading through this thread, with much interest

I too live in the Bishan area but do not have a Mandarin background (so this will not be our second language)
Does anyone know the date of the openhouse for Kuo Chuan Presby Pri School?
Does ACS hold any openhouse?
We plan to attend the St Gab's one in July,
Thanks, guys -
depends what you want your child to be brought up in. Moral values or more towards academic. I was a former student from Kuo Chuan Secondary and we were taught very much on moral values and a positive attitude towards yourself and others. Though i did not do very well in my studies (not that my teachers or school are no good), i certainly do excel in my career and through determination and hard work, i am now in a top management post in my organisation.
Kuo chuan Presbyterian secondary has given me a base for leadership training and i respect all teachers who put in all the hard work. In fact what i heard Kuo Chuan Secondary standard is above average secondary school. -
You are right, I think character, values, a hardworking spirit all much more important.
I was from a top girls’ school and junior college yet I don’t have many positive things to say about my schooldays.
I want my kids to grow up happy, well-balanced individuals, with a strong sense of justice and compassion for others.
Academically, if they do well, good on them but if not, that’s not the end-all, you know? -

I totally agreed, although I was from a neighborhood primary and secondary, it is very enjoyable with little stress. However, nowadays there are lots of peer pressure around on the parent that make us kiasu and put stress on the kid.You are right, I think character, values, a hardworking spirit all much more important.
