      hi tamarind

      great job u ve done!
i was looking at the content that u hv posted and the work surely seems like tough to me though i must admit at how many times i ve heard how the standards have been raised..

how did u adjust and help yr kid along?

the others? i think i must be one of the odd few who prob is feeling as such šŸ˜‰

      Hi Ags,
Sorry for the late reply. I was very busy the past few weeks and did not have time to visit this forum.

My girl has a very good foundation in phonics since she was 4 years old. I also let her read the Ladybird key word reading scheme. She completed all 12 levels before 5 years old. She is reading very well, and her good foundation in phonics make spelling very easy for her. Since last year, I made her write a few sentences about what she did every day, her writing improves very quickly.

She is in K2 now, and this is her latest spelling test :

      1. There are many animals in the zoo.
      2. The giraffe has a long neck.
      3. The zebra has black and white stripes.

All the above within one test !

I asked my girl whether her classmates can cope. She said that only a few have no problem. The others try to copy from them šŸ˜‰

I am also happy to know that my girl is learning Hanyu Pinyin in her PCF class now. I think it is quite well taught.

            Hi all,

Every PCF kindergarten is different. It is important to choose carefully.

Checkout my blog about the teaching materials, spelling lists, etc in my girl's K1 class at PCF (662B Jurong West).

After following this thread, I am quite tempted to send my sons to PCF kindergarten. I live in upp bkt timah.. Any parents here send their children to PCF kindies around bukit batok, bukit timah or bukit panjang area? Can share info or feedbacks?

The nearest PCF kindies to my place is bukit batok east ave 4 and 5... Would be very happy if these kindies has high standards as the one that tamarind's DD attends... šŸ™

                allseasons,
It is best to talk to the teachers in charge to find out what is their syllabus. PCF kindergarten under different centre heads have a wide range of standards.

In my area, there is the normal type, which charges $107 a month, and the premium type which charge $250 a month including enrichment. My girl is in the premium PCF.

                  tamarind,

Am curious. Does it mean that the normal PCF will not have a good syllabus or not such good teaching methods? What is the difference?

This branch teaches only the basics.
No spelling or tingxie when my boy was K2 last year.
                    The teachers are nice though.

Let's not label normal PCF as not good.

PCF is supposed to be affordable kindergartens for the middle and lower income people. They still do teach the basics and whether the teaching methods are good are dependent on the parent's expectations. I guess the premium ones are an option for those who can afford the higher yet still affordable fees for the middle income. I believe they will adapt a higher standard of teaching and curriculum for that increased in fees. Coming from the same brand, the word 'premium' is not without a reason.

Do also note that different premium pcfs may have varying standards too.

I suppose its a case of you get what you pay for. For pp who believe, they are willing to pay $1200 a month for Eton House which may not be neccessary.

But generally,, I haven't heard good things about PCF. Tamarind is lucky that she found a good one for her kids.
