Snow24:
Just some thoughts that come to mind, of course, this is intuitive, and not exhaustive:Hi
What did you do to retain good helper.
What are the things that helpers will appreciate about their employers.
What qualities does good helper posses?
(1) Treat them with the respect you'd accord to a fellow human being, but keep a respectable distance as an employer. Give them a general over-arching guideline on boundaries, and not micro-manage what they do. Be forgiving over mistakes and little things. A good person would want to do things right, so do over-harp on mistakes / breakages, especially when the point has been made and understood. Because we can make mistakes too.
(2) Give them opportunities to learn and grow as a person. Notice things they do that are right and give at least an occasional praise. Encourage them to take up courses and give suitable support. Give them personal space. Have integrity and pay them a reasonable wage and not withhold unnecessarily. Withhold their passports securely though.
(3) Want to do things right. Will do the right things even if not reminded or told to do, especially after the initial I-want-to-impress-you period. Have integrity and not appear to hide things / thoughts all the time. But beware of some who pour out all their family problems - some may be trying to get sympathy for some possible gains. Just try not get too absorbed. -
HI,
I have a query
I have a maid who has been with me for 6 years, I will allow her home leave for 2 weeks every 2 years
but this year, she decided not to go home and stay here in Singapore
I know I have to pay her for the home leave of 2 weeks even though she does not return home
but do I have to pay her for the air ticket too?
meaning is the usualy air ticket cost around $300, I will compensate her in cash term since she is not going home? is there such ruling that employer have to compensate maid air ticket if she choose to say in Singapore?
hope to hear from you. thks -
HI, yes I think you have to pay her the air ticket price.

Hi
How many months is your maid I want to impress you period before they start to demand things?
Did your maid ask you for your Wi-Fi password? Did you give it to her. -
I usually give the maid the wi-fi password myself. However, I always inform them that I will monitor their use. If they cannot help themselves and lose control, then I will take back their mobile.

Hi
Usually very hard for them to have self control. They promise to use HP only after finish work at night end up also break promise and use daytime secretly. My maid, asked to use her HP daytime and nap as she threaten to transfer then let her use and nap.My chores did not get done either.Worse is using HP when my child is up the escalator. -
I guess its easier when there are people at home to watch them. Otherwise, better to hold on to their phones.
-
Maids nowadays would be u happy if you keep her handphones. The first, day she come to my house already ask about her handphone. I ever hired a maid who we told her to put her handphone on the cupboard where she can see her headphone but not locked away end up also unhappy and go and use the handphone daytime when we are working.Their heart is only on using hand phone, facebook, selfie and talking to her friends over the phone like nobody business.Yet when it come to communicating with my children can suddenly become a mute .

my maid is also alone at home in the daytime. so we only give her hp about 9pm. she also asked about wifi but i dont give her. so i think these adds up to unhappiness so now she dont want work for me already.
my prev maid i gave her hp in the daytime she end up taking sexy photos at home when no one is at home. i dont want it to repeat again. yes they will promise to use the phone after chores finish but is v difficult to control…even for us we also keep looking at our phone. if the phone is really affecting their work and the safety of your children and your maid dont seem repentful, then you can consider changing…although i know change is not easy! i am having dreams about my new maid already!
