Yishun Town Secondary School
-
My daughter is joining ytss school, this year. I had a little idea about this school, when I put this as top choice among o level schools. Now i am happy that i have chosen this school. The teachers are really caring.
I had some problem with my dds hmt choice. I informed about this to mother tongue hod. In spite of not having hmt in the school (they only have chinese hmt here), the mother tongue hod took pains to call our language centre, email them (2 centers) about our requirement, send me a letter from principal, and update about the things thro email, to me. I had talked to her only once and she took the action on the same day itself. I am really very happy about this. -
Anyone from Yishun Town Secondary School?
Any comment on the schools in term of academics, disciplines, teachers etc? -
My daughter is in ytss, sec 1. I love the teachers here. They are quick to spot out the talents in students and encourage them. When my dd had some problem with her classmates, the form teacher found it before the news reached me and solved the issue. Principal is a wonderful lady, who likes to mingle with kids and parents. Discipline wise they are more strict. Once I saw the discipline master talking with the late comers and realised why my dd was always early to school. academic wise also the school is good.

Contemplating YTSS as one of our 6 choices. Any current student or parent can list down the pros and cons of the school?

I honestly feel that yishun town is better because the discipline is better at yishun town. Yishun town students also do relatively better than students at Chung Cheng high. And to top it off, yishun town has many nice and encouraging teachers too! So if i had to choose, I would definitely choose yishun town :goodpost: -
May I know what is the NA cop this year?

I was from YTSS a few years. And i gotta say that YTSS really have the best teachers throughout my education years. The dedication they give in every of their students. As for the express stream, we were all ‘forced’ to choose Pure Sciences and A Maths during streaming from Sec 2 to 3, and I would say this is actually a very scheme. Especially for most of the students here, who are going to poly or JCs, these subjects give them an edge in entering their JC/Poly, while some other school actually don’t allow you take these subjects unless you meet a grade eg. B4 and above. The principal and the teaching team actually thought and planned for the students future, and not only cared about the O level results. Trust me, when i was in JC, i saw many students entering with a low l1r5 score but the subjects they took were combined sciences, and no AMath, they struggled so hard to catch up with the syllabus due to the lack of prior knowledge.
The school may not have the best facilities or a very niche CCA available, but the exposure you/your children can get is really shadow this cons. Most importantly, the teachers really dedicated in teaching students. Night studies till 10pm, with most teachers staying back for consultation, really help to push student for the final mile just before O levels. I managed to quite a decent results of 7A1s, which till today I am still thankful for all teachers that have taught me in YTSS.
Ultimately, the final goal for entering a secondary school, is getting good O levels results, and that will really open lots of door in the path for JC and Poly. Even though YTSS does not really shine for their sports or others, it is definitely the best school in the North area and even on par with Band 1 School like Anderson SS, or Catholic High.
