If I not wrong, madam Ler did mentioned she proud of this year P4 cohort bcos they tend to achieve wonderful academic result. Eg: Last year abt 20% out of P3 level go Kheng Cheng PS sit for GEP round 2 exam. Year end every class hv 5 kids received academic award instead of 3.
Next year P5 HCL reduce to 4 classes shd b due to New principal set new criteria to enrol HCL. -
Eunice, we are thinking about the same thing. I also remember what Mdm Ler said and thought it was strange that less than 50% of our current P4 will be taking HCL next year. It is supposed to be a stronger cohort. Given that we are also a SAP school, I thought more students should be taking HCL but again, I know new p is not really supportive of this HCL. I heard in P5/P6 level briefing, he was trying hard to sell the idea that HCL is not important, explaining to parents how the additional points work.

My daughter told me she mentioned in Founder's day dinner in year 2017. She did invited to speech on the stage (That time she already in NYPS). She quote P3 GEP case. She proud of 2016 P3 -

Does that mean there is zero supplementary class in next year's P5 now? Or only HCL supplementary class?
I am wondering as 'zero' supplementary class seems to be the 'in' trend now! My neighbourhood school just implemented this for next year's P5 too! :faint: -
Hi fantasylanddreams, we used to have compulsory academic support in Eng and Math from P3 but it was scraped this year when new p was on board. Now, there is no more extra support from school, not even in P6. Schoolwork is also kept to a bare minimum. My girls had a lot of free time throughout this whole year. I tried to keep them occupied by signing them up for tuition classes otherwise they would be spending their time on class chat and games!
Neighbourhood schools are always quick to adopt changes that you hardly see in those TOP, popular schools. We are always the guinea pigs! -
Hi
Can someone shed a little light on the school’s culture, ie. homework load, standards of Mandarin, the teachers’ care for the students and if the school is very results-driven etc. Any thoughts, however trivial, are greatly appreciated! Thank you!! -

I attended the lower pri talk too. He also keep elaborating on the HCL and drop obvious hints that HCL will only benefit those who are going to the top sec (which in my opinion is not wrong). He mentioned that students should focus on the core subjects rather than fuss on HCL. Which make sense too... but than again, as a chinese sch with rich Chinese history, he should be encouraging students to excel in Chinese and give a more motivational speech rather than discouraging them to choose HCL. Especially the talk I went is meant for lower Primary. MY kid hear already super happy.. zzz
He kept emphasizing we should not label a child and every child’s should be given a chance hence, the reason why he is not going to stream the class. But seems like he is not taking the chance where it comes to HCL. He also said something along the line like ...parents got to work with him and trust him with his experience in education... -
I thought take HCL means the children will be more exposed to the cultural aspect of the language. If kids can cope the stretch their potential but why must discourage?
