OnSponge Maths - Discussion

Hello everyone,
I am wondering if anyone has experience with both oodles and concept maths. Would appreciate sharing from any parents out there so that I can make a decision. Will be very grateful for all PMs from any parents. Many thanks. -

I have never thought of writing a negative feedback about an enrichment center until now....
I signed up my dd (P5) at Thomson branch for a holiday program. My dd truly loved it and that was why I registered her at Sembawang branch, and also I wanted her to be able to tackle the OnSponge problem sums, which her school does not do it often. When she was at Sembawang branch, I realized that she was kind of upset after each lesson. She told me repeatedly that she did not want to attend the lesson there anymore. I was puzzled and told her that the materials were good (and still is) and it will help her in her PSLE. When I checked her Oodles homework, the instructor did not go thru all the corrections. You can see his frustration and impatience by marking a big cross in her worksheets. I was kind of upset and wrote a feedback in their website. Thomson branch responded (kind of main branch). I told them that Math has always been my dd's favourite subject and now Sembawang branch managed to 'kill' it. They were very kind and told me that they can arrange for another instructor (same branch) to go thru the corrections with my dd. I was also thinking of switching to Thomson branch, but logistics and schedule are really a challenge. Eventually I have to stop just after one and a half term. My deposit of $200 is supposed to offset the rest of the 4 lessons, but my dd simply refused to go. The reason is not just one of the above as it is tedious to type all. What really upset me was that the instructor just simply has no patience and use scolding and shouting method to teach.
Up till now my dd did not tell me the real reason why she does not want to go there. My husband and I were extremely upset as this is really the first time my dd 'rejects' an enrichment center. Shouting and belittling definitely do not help a student learn. -

Is the instructor the owner of the Sembawang branch?I have never thought of writing a negative feedback about an enrichment center until now....

Just to share my experience with another branch (can’t say which one..). We got the owner as the instructor, and was rather happy as I thought usually the owner would be more on since it’s his/her own business. However after a few lessons, my child feedback that the instructor always has to go out of the classroom to attend to parents who walk-in for queries, make payment etc… supposed to have a receptionist but seems like not there most of the weekdays. Even if there is receptionist, I have also seen for myself the instructor walking out of the classroom to answer potential parents’ queries about the lessons, or to settle some admin issue with the receptionist. This owner/instructor is also rather fierce and tend to talk loudly to keep the class quiet. My child also mentioned that when she tried to ask questions, the instructor also kind of like brush her aside. Personally I have also witnessed the instructor shouting at one child to leave the class as he was rude. Then in front of many parents tell them that rather don’t earn money from this kind of child. I think no doubt the child may not have behaved well, but as a bystander watching the scene, I think not so nice also. Anyway in the end, no big unhappiness but we chose to forego a few lessons and ask for the worksheets to be done at home. When I ask for the answer sheets, they say cannot give but can bring to the centre for teachers to mark. We didn’t do that as it was too troublesome. -
you guys are not the only one that I have heard recently about this centres. Come to think of it…at least you have such bad experiences when your child is not in P6. Anyway, my rule of thumb…never follow a centres that advertise heavily. Just this year itself, they advertise so heavily giving free lessons. Like machiam needed to to curb losses by getting more students. One wonders is there an exodus of past students leaving.
Material are good but deliverable and attention given to the students are questionable. -
Any feedback on the Katong V branch? Which teacher is good for P6 class? Thought of signing up for P6 next year and would like to hear some feedback. Thanks. :nailbite:

such a waste. The knowledge they teach are not bad but got tarnished by a few bad apples, spoiling the whole crate. :spank:
