Dunman High School (Junior High)

I am a mathematics tutor and I have a few students currently from DHS IP. I would say that the amount of Math homework is quite substantial. Students sometimes might asked for more time to complete the homework. Generally the school culture is quite good and students are positive. Hope my little input helps.

Hi there
Iβm from a central ip school and was wondering if there were cases of singaporeans transferring into Dunman high ur 3 mid year? and if they have managed to transfer, is the transition smooth ?
- are they able to catch up with the curriculum ? - are there avenues for special consultation for these students to get up to date with the syllabus etc?
Thanks ππ -

I know there are students joining DHS in the beginning of Yr 3 (like the oversea scholars, etc..), but I'm not sure about during Yr 3 mid year.. Perhaps you want to contact the School General Office on this.
As for consultation, you can always approach teacher for consultation after school hours and the teachers are generally helpful on this. -
Hi parents or students of DHS,
May I know how many subjects taken in Y1 &Y2 and how which subjects will added to the final total aggregate? Know that some school add in all the subjects the students study and government school only included L1R5.
As for the Eng , is it Eng + literature together for Y1 to Y4 or just for the first 2 years? Thanks -

The Open House is this Sat (25-May-19) from 8am to 12noon, so this will be the best opportunity to find out the most up-to-date information

Having said that, the examinable subjects for Y1/2 are as follow (counted towards your GPA):
- Eng
- Eng Lit
- HCL
- Math
- Science
- History
- Geography
- Third Lang (for those taking Third Lang at MOELC)
- MEP (only for the MEP students)
All Y1/2 must also take the following non-examinable subjects:
- Computing
- Malay
- Appreciation of Chinese Culture
- Home Econ (both boys and girls)
- Thinking Research Program (It can be counted, but only 0.25 or 0.5 weightage which I cannot remember)
For Y3/4, the following subjects are compulsory:
- Eng
- HCL
- Math 1
- Math 2
- Chemistry
- Any 1 humanity subject (ie Eng Lit, Chin Lit, History, Geography, etc)
The rest of the subjects is depending on your subject combination. Most students take 8 subjects, some take 9 if they have Third Lang or MEP (but can only take 1 of these), but the subject combination may have consequences when they reach Y5/6 since DHS is a IP school. -
Thanksgancheongdaddy,
I know some IP schools combined both Eng and Literature as one subject, so is DHS the same?
So that means in all the examinable subjects will be counted towards the GPA, not like the government school using L1R5. All 8 subjects counted in quite tough
Thanks -

As I mentioned, DHS has splitted Language Art into 2 subjects: Eng and Eng Lit, starting from the Y1 batch in 2019.
For the calculation of the final GPA to determine promotion, the school still consider L1R5.
From Y1 to Y2, you need to hit at least 2.0 for L1R5, From Y2 onwards, you need at least 2.4 to promote. -
Thanks gancheongdaddy,
Itβs great to know that the school uses L1R5 for promotion. My elder dsβs school included all subjects into the MSG. I think L1R5 is better especially for literature and history which are killer.
Thanks -
When students start to reach Upper Sec Year (3 and 4) IP, for Mathematics and Science Physics and Chemistry , at Dunman High :-
do the IP Teachers start to bring down and teach H2 (GCE A-level) Moe ( Maths / Physics / Chemistry ), module by module, content syllabus ?
Is the coverage taught brought down substantial, or only a bit ?
Can give an example of the Topics (module) taught, brought down ? -
Anyone can recommend any tuition centre for English which DHS students go ?
