Is the admission criteria of local universities the same for IB graduates regardless if they are from ACSI/SJI or international schools?

We were told recently that local universities require IB graduates to also sit for SAT and need a high minimum score of 1600. Is this true?

Anyone has experience to share please?

Who told you that?! 1600 is the perfect score for SAT (current version). Impossible for local Uni to require a perfect SAT score. Also, never heard of local Uni requiring IB students to sit for SAT.

Some relatives whose kids are studying at international schools in SG. I thought it was ridiculous too when I first heard it from them but they seemed so sure about it.

From what I have read so far, I have not read about IB students sitting for SAT too. I thought that was only needed for the US uni. Thanks!

Ok, I checked that for NUS, IB students only required to take SAT IF they are applying to Medicine and Dentistry using their predicted IB results for early admission:


“Students presenting May 2020 IB Diploma Programme Examination Session results

These students may apply for admission with their predicted International Baccalaureate (IB) results, as attested by their high school.

Both SAT and SAT Subject Tests scores* are required only if students

are applying for Medicine and/or Dentistry course
wish to have an early admission consideration
* SAT score reports must be submitted if you have indicated the results in the online application form. Lack of the necessary supporting documents will affect the processing of your application.”

Perhaps that’s the difference you are referring to between ACSi/SJI and international schools. The ACSI/SJI applicants will be using their Nov IB results, and no SAT is required, whereas the international schools students will be using their predicted May IB results for early admission hence SAT is required (but only if they apply to Medicine and Dentistry, which not surprisingly would required a high SAT score to enter such highly competitively faculties).

That's the maximum score, so yes, it would be hard to achieve. From later posts, it seems that the students you refer to were applying for the most competitive courses (eg Medicine), so I guess they can ask for perfection. But even the top US universities do not set 1600 as a minimum, so I guess it is likely that the local universities may have advised something like \"as close to 1600 as possible\", but that message got garbled.

this could be their lower bound based on the cohort, with averages in the 40s, there are not many in the early 30s let along late 20s
