If Yes,
then this year (2020) HCL Sec 1 would be different from your next year (2021) Sec 1 HCL syllabus

And also,
the Sec 2 HCL "shou ce" which you have purchased wrongly may not be of use anymore.

Clarify this,
with Popular bookshop selling Chinese textbook department section, the Officer in charge, because they are often in touch with book printing Publishers, they will know. The Publishers will need to call back this current year (2020) old stock Chinese textbooks from all Popular branches, getting ready to print and sell the newly 2021 revised, updated changed in MOE Chinese syllabus textbooks.

use your receipt to exchange for some other item, maybe u may need to top up for the new item exchanged.

Hi, I hope I'm posting this in the right place. May I know if there is Chinese tuition that caters to IP school like NYGH? Cos I find the pace, standard and scope quite different from O level program. IP program varies from school to school so wondering if anyone knows a place where the tuition centre groups the students by school. I'm not familiar with the secondary school tuition scene so any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Not sure if this is helpful but I hv heard of nygh girls going for chinese tuition at one of the centres along railway mall. Maybe you can Google and enquire more.

IP program cant be too far off from mainstream, cos they'll be sitting for the same paper in s4 \"o\" level.

a lot of tuition centre that conduct Secondary school Higher Chinese weekly tuition, each lesson 2 hours duration.



They alternate between teaching Chinese Comprehension vs. zuowen writing. Thus, in one month, out of 4 lessons, students write only two zuowen. This week write zuowen, next week do Chinese Compreh. Alternate !


only towards exam time like one or 2 weeks just before Secondary schools’ SA1 (mid year) or SA2 (year end), then start to dwell into Chinese Oral
eg.
students take turn, queued up for their turn one by one, to have mock-up Oral session with their Tuition centre assigned Teachers.


HCL Tuition centre like

(Busybee, Wang laoshi, Jiang laoshi)

behave like this, during regular Term time, Term ( 1 to 4). After much inquiry in other tuition centre, many also behaved similarly.


Is there any Chinese tuition centre that focus only on zuowen component only, without the Comprehension portion, during regular Term time ?

Just want to highlight that actually, even without writing of full compo during lesson time, preparation is always involved during coverage of other components like comprehension. This is especially true for Sec level since the students are no longer writing picture composition where the focus of preparation can just be on drilling of descriptive phrases regarding actions and feelings. To continue with that type of preparation will be 治标不治本.


The nature of comprehension passages in section school are mainly narrative and discursive - which are the main type of essays students will write in Sec level. Like I always highlight to my students, when attempting comprehension, the skills set they master and the information they gain can be effectively applied to compo writing, including:
- descriptive phrases
- how to apply different types of rhetoric approach
- how to transition between events/paragraphs
- how to build up reader's impression of characters
- gather pointers related to the theme/topic

Once they understand that, they will realise why it is important for them to do after lesson revision (reading through the passages again, jotting down notes/descriptive phrases) and attempt to 学以致用.

No doubt, writing practices are important for training of application and time management. However, for them to be effective, consistent guidance and exposure to references/model examples are necessary.

Understand that in my DD's school, pupils can only continue HCL in Sec 4 if they score A1 or A2 in Sec 3 O' Level CL.

Is this the same practice for other schools?

Not all Secondary schools


only certain SAP schools imposed such criteria :

minimum, must score at least a B3 in O-level (bu-hwa), then can proceed to take O-level (gao hua) the immediate following year

For P6 students who have just finished Psle, can check with the school first whether got impose such criteria, before listing it down as one of your 6 choices. You may clarify with the Secondary school Chinese HOD first. If u don't feel comfortable with such school criteria imposed upon, then avoid such school,
that is,
don't select it as one of you 6 choices. You have the choice (freedom) to select & decide for yourself
