My daughter (Sec 2 IP) is reading HCL and she has not been asked to buy Chinese textbooks, only the HCL textbooks. The SCGS booklists are all available online

Within each IP class, there are both HCL and CL students, as well as students who read other MTs. SCGS is a racially diverse school. Still, among the IP classes, at lower Sec, more read HCL than CL. Some will drop HCL after Sec 2.

Heard from my DD1, close to half the class who took HCL need to retake the paper. Some are contemplating to drop HCL after sec 3. I suggest persevere lah. 加油！


Last month, we started 1-1 HCL tuition for my DD1 as DD1 finds HCL v tough. I can’t see the effect yet but I think it should help in her comprehension/oral exam techniques.

Among the Sec 2s taking HCL, there were quite a number of failures too.

If half the class needs to retake HCL paper, guess it means failing HCL is not uncommon. So SC girls pls don’t be too discouraged!

Inside your school SCGS Report card, when you open up the Report card,

does SCGS report the Average (mean) per subject (including Higher Chinese / History / Geog / Maths / Science … ),

- at your entire cohort level and also

- for your own individual class ?

so far, in St Nick,
our 2020 Year 1 report card content inside never reflect any info about the average (mean) for individual class nor at entire cohort level. We only see our own marks. Thats all. We have no idea how the entire cohort level perform, in each of the subjects for Year 1… not sure about other level work

I suppose if we really want to know the mean, can ask during "Parents meet Tr " session time, open to certain identified students-by-Teacher only.
If Teacher never ask you to attend such session, is like … no news is good news, that kind of feeling

The SCGS reports do not contain any information on cohort performance, whether it is mean or max or mininum.

Only 6 subjects are counted in lower Sec, i.e. Lang Arts, MT, Maths, Science, Geog, History.

Is Year 4 Geography, harder than Year 4 History in SCGS ?

Not sure how this can be compared for IP girls as none of them will take both History and Geog.

The Sec 2 subject combination briefing was just held for the Sec 2 girls. I think the girls were briefly told about the upper sec syllabus for Geog and History. I would imagine the girls will choose based on their interests.
