Are you a current SST student, or a 2020 post PSLE student entering into SST Sec 1 next year (2021), via DSA offer acceptance ?

If you are a current SST student, you should be able to have access and can check all
2020 Sec 3 classes' time table schedule.

Out of Total number of Sec 3 classes available , how many classes have the subject combination, containing this word \"Computing\" ?

Is it one, two or more classes opened, to teach Computing ? From there, you can tell whether Computing is popular or not, because

at end of Sec 2 year-end streaming, students will be informed which Sec 3 class subject combination, they have been allocated into. So, do check the various classes ' time table, assess whether Computing is popular or not

          Computing, another Applied Science

          https://www.sst.edu.sg/programmes/applied-subjects/

          ===========================

Computing is a subject, one can always learn outside on your own, if you wish. There are plenty of enrichment classes that teach Computing.
E.g. Python computer programming, even at Upper primary P5 & P6
Yes, you can readily find several enrichment centre that offer this type of training. In fact, some parents, when their children are in P3 or P4, they already started sending their children to learn programming, hoping that by the time they reach P6, can apply DSA via \"STEM\" (Science / Technology / Engineering / Mathematics) domain, into SST or NUS High or into any other IP-JCs, etc.

Since \"Computing\" is easily available outside,
usually when come to choosing Sec 3 subject combination, it is advisable to choose those subjects that are not easy to come by,

          ie.
not easily found available in commercial enrichment training centre.[/quote]

hi, im a sec 2 student not in sst but im planning to transfer next year. i want to take computing as im passionate about it and im not so interested in the other applied subjects. for now im crossing my fingers that i will get in because ive been wanting to join sst for a long time

May I know why you can’t apply to read both Biology and Biotech?

Yes, you can apply for Chemistry, Biology and Biotech as a combination.

However, both Biology and Biotech is content heavy, lots of memorization.

              Refering to
this year (2020) current Sec 3 subject combination time table schedule,

are there sufficient number of students interested enough, gathered together to pursue this unique (Pure Bio & Bio-tech) ?

              Total,
              how many classes were opened

for such subject combination ? Zero, one or more than one class ?

              Applying, is one thing.
Whether can take off or not, is another matter.

For a class to be able to take off successfully, there need to be

              1) enough minimum number of students required to apply for this same subject combination,

              2) teaching resources in terms of presence of staff availability, and in the subject domain expertise imparted, need to be allocated & assigned to teach the class,

              3) teaching facilities, also need to be present

at least one class every year will have an entire class filled with computing students. you are very right to point out the modules taught in the computing subject can be easily learnt by oneself, but i think taking computing allows a student to have their computing capabilities affirmed by a o level grade. https://www.seab.gov.sg/docs/default-source/national-examinations/syllabus/olevel/2020syllabus/7155_y20_sy.pdf

all ELR2B2-C/D diplomas in poly accept computing as a relevant subject, and computing is also offered as a h2 a level subject in many jcs. https://www.seab.gov.sg/docs/default-source/national-examinations/syllabus/alevel/2020syllabus/9569_y20_sy.pdf

that being said, i agree with you that sst does offer applied subjects not easy to come by. to my knowledge, the only school in singapore offering biotech and design studies is sst. ultimately, i believe the choice is up to the student's desired career path or interest in computing. i don't encourage students to choose their subject combination based on the subject's popularity.

there aren't enough students, who take biotech and pure bio, to form an entire class. hence these students are put into a biotech-majority class but attend bio lessons while their classmates attend physics lessons

                    Not surprised to hear that

there aren't enough students to form one class, for this rare combination (Bio-technology + Pure Bio) together.

                    In stark contrast,

(Bio-technology pairing up with Pure Physics) is hot, highly popular
                    because

\"this is the closest\" to Triple Pure Sciences inside SST that you can find, since SST don't permit any Sec 3 Triple Pure Sciences subject combination.

Another strong reason why this combination is popular, is because at end of S2, students do Not know whether they are stronger in Bio or in Physics, so might as well take both (Physics + Bio-tech) in S3 first, later after O-level then decide which one to drop, unless ....

there are certain students who really hated Bio by the end of Sec 2, because they simply cannot remember those Bio stuff that they have read up about, then is obvious that Bio is not their cup of tea, not their strength, and they can't wait to drop off Bio quickly. Of course, Bio is more than just memory work. But if basic memory already encountered issue, how to continue with Bio, right ?

                    So,
if students want to take Sec 3 Pure Physics, which I believe many SST boys will be taking Physics, as many boys could be targeting Engineering courses subsequently in their University education later on and
yet at the same time still prefer to take something that is related to Bio, because hardly the time yet to drop off Bio totally at Upper Sec 3, then (Bio-technology + Physics) subject combination will be in hot demand !

Boys especially, love to take Physics, although there are also a handful of girls, who also love Physics. When come to Physics this subject, usually dominated by boys.

As for end-of-Sec 2 SST students planning to take up Bio-tech, even before decide to take up Bio-tech,

                    if suppose
your intended original charted plan is to continue your Pre-U education in a Junior College and not go to a Polytechnic,

please give a call to that respective Junior College's either Head of Biology or to the overall Head of Science department Officer directly ( be it an IP-A-level-JC or a Non-IP-A-level-JC), seek this important alert clarification below first,

                    \"Hi Officer-in-charge, I am a student from SST.
If I have recently scored an A or a B in my O-level subject Bio-technology, can I still study H2 Bio in your Junior College JC1, or not ? \"

See how the Bio-HOD (in that particular JC) reply you,

                    because

based on SEAB O-level examination content, which SEAB first take the initial, original exam content from Cambridge and then modified the content, to suit our Singapore local exam needs, which you can easily google yourself, the MOE tested syllabus between
(Pure Biology vs. Bio-technology), differs a lot !

                    Example

If you are interested to go Eunoia Junior College or go Hwa Chong or go any JC after O-level, do give the Bio-HOD-in-charge a call, seek clarification first.

                    What is A or B ?

                    A2 : (70 to 74) marks range

For Upper Sec 3 Applied Science (AS) subject, "Electronics" -

apart from taking Electronics (AS) and compulsory Pure Chemistry,
