Hi, my son has PSLE score of 244. Is the chance of going Maris Stella high this year ? (COP was 239 last year). Does COP swing up or down by a lot ? considering this year seems to have more students getting better score.

Last year, Maris Stella's COP increased by 2 points which made it 239. Assuming the worst case that could occur which is, it's COP increases by 5 points(which is usually the max a school's COP will increases), they would still accept your son. So no worries! IMHO, I think this year there are less students getting better score.

Thank you very much 😄
both myself and wife are health workers so im just glad my son did well
I congratulate all daddies and mommies on their childrens' performances, and wish they achieve their desired school postings !
I wouldn't worry too much about all this speculation about how many more or less students did well this year. No one has the full picture except for MOE. 244 is beyond comfortable for entry in MSH in my view.

My boy
Ngee Ann seems best choice, and if willing to travel farther can consider maris Stella, zhonghua, Temasek, Tanjong Katong, Xin min.
DD 259+2. Still undecided between St Nicks IP vs MGS IB. We recce schools distances yesterday by taking MRT/buses. St Nicks has a Mayflower MRT opening soon which makes it easier to transfer 2 mrt lines (short distance) and we are staying around vicinity of Lor Chuan/Braddell. MGS also takes 2 mrt lines to get. I am more in favour of St nicks due to closer proximity but DD seems more interested in MGS. To be honest, i think getting to MGS in BT is a hassle should I need to fetch her (car) on some days. Trying not to force a decision on DD but it seems rather logical to choose St nicks. Any thots from anyone?

you should be considering the differences between IB and A levels plus the differences in how your DD learns and how IB and A are taught. Location shouldn’t matter if it were me. Plus she wants MGS, it will be more about convincing her beyond just convenience, having her want something is a added plus that shouldn’t be removed so lightly in my view

We have been researching quite a bit, and I also found this article provided very good info. However, IB vs A styles is still rather challenging to pinpoint for a 12yo.

https://singaporelearner.com/2014/01/15/which-one-to-choose-the-ib-or-the-a-levels/
Just curious, why not NYGH if SNGS an option? NYGH and MGS will be on par on distance, and leave you to compare A vs IB merits seriously.

Hi Marquez,

Crescent Girls Secondary school will catch your DD1, at 248.

National Junior College :
being an IP school, not possible to fall beneath 250 to 248, so drastic

SCGS (O-level) :
never dropped below 250, based on past years’ track record,
because SCGS is a dual-track IP school

Cedar (O-level) :
last year 249, this year 2020 likely to increase, shoot past 250 border

Glad to hear crescents will catch her. Her only preference is between cedar and crescents.

DD 2 score (211)

1. Zhenghua (210)
2. Greenridge (192)
3. Bukit view (213)
4. Hillgrove (211)
5. Chua Chu Kang (216)
6. Fajar (188)
Just my humble opinion for your DD1, none of the schools that you have listed down is a SAP school. Thus, the +2 is of no use. Probably you might want to include SAP schools? I don't really know which area you reside in, but I think there are schools with higher COP than Fajar. Probably your DD2 might be interested in them and her t-score might also meet their COP? Hope this helps!

What is the reason for her being more interested in mgs? Is she more interested in mgs because of its IB or something else (like I really loved their library and swimming pool)?

We did ask her, coz she heard project based learning and might have gotten the impression not as stressful as A levels
