:scratchhead: Wondering if anyone knows the T score for St Stephens, Temasek and Tanjong Katong... we are moving to the east and have to choose a school for DS and I’m totally clueless :scratchhead:
MOE's school information service will have this information. You can search by school name or other criteria. They just don't rank schools now.
Hi, I am deciding the sequence of choice

- catholic high O level - 1 point below cop

- nanhua - 2 points above cop

Travelling distance about the same, both are SAP.

Anyone can share ur view?

Take Catholic High (O-level) better, because
at end of Sec 2 year-end streaming, you still have a second chance to go IP, if u desire.

if your son does well at end of Sec 2 and son is keen in IP, Principal will invite your son to do IP starting Sec 3 IP to join Eunoia JC

This EJC has improved rapidly so fast !

Years ago, when EJC first started off and occupied Mount Sinai temporary premises, not many students want to join IP (CHS / SCGS / St Nick) back then, because many students said \"brand new JC, no track record ...\"

But today Y2020, look what happen ?

Eunoia JC admission intake -
Is the same for Science & Arts, as the other two : Victoria JC and National JC

In other words,
As far as L1R5 is concerned,

Eunoia Junior College is on par, with Victoria Junior College & National Junior College, for A-level admission, both (Science & Arts) stream

EJC has done exceedingly well, to come thus far !

Cut off point (L1R5) for

a)

Eunoia JC (Science ) = Victoria JC (Science) = National JC (Science), all at 7 points

b)

EJC (Arts) = VJC (Arts) = NJC (Arts), all at 8 points

In other words, 2 years later, at end of Sec 2 streaming, if u do well and decide to go straight up to A-level, bypass take O level National exam, u still have the last chance to do so.

Anyway, 7 points (Science stream), not easy to get, at O-level. So might as well grab the chance and go , if by then Principal give you the chance to go IP, at end of Sec 2

If you choose Nan Hua,
if u want this type of opportunity at end of Sec 2, also don't have

Eunoia JC

National JC

I have same thought as you. But DS still wants to put nanhua first...
Maybe , it’s like some of us prefer a lower paying but offer better work life balance job ?

sunny, there might be reasons why your boy wants to put Nanhua in his first choice:
1) He really likes Nanhua
2) His good friends going to Nanhua
3) He is not so keen to go to EJC, he aims other JCs upon O level.

So after all analysis and advice to your boy, let him make final decision on the first choice as he shall be happy in the school chosen.

While I understand the current trends for parents to allow more say from the child, parents will also need to understand that below the ages of 16, children are hardly able to comprehend the cause and effect of their actions.

I supposed the balance approach is the talk to them, listen to their reason first. The school workshop i attended on parenting teenagers: when they are in primary school, parent are the commanders. When they are teenagers, our role should become the coach- guide them in the right direction; instead of telling them what to do. Allow them the chance to learn and prepare them for young adulthood

To all caring parents, now that the selection process is over, I have this to share. Wishing all your darlings fulfilling learning experiences ahead:

“You will never have this day with your children again. Tomorrow they will be a little older than they are today. This day is a gift. Breathe and notice. Smell and touch them. Study their faces and pay attentions. Relish the charms of the present. Enjoy today papa and mama. It will be over before you know it.” - Jen Hatmaker

hi phtthp, do u know which SAP schs push the kids to take HCL in sec 1? is Catholic High 1 of them?

Since your son have accepted the DSA offer into Catholic High -

1)

HCL is compulsory for All IP students in Catholic High (SAP school)

At end of Sec 4,
All IP students sit for O-level (HCL) exam.

All IP students,
no need to sit for O-level (bu-hua) in Sec 3, because they are destination bound for Eunoia Junior College, hence don't need to be bothered by this L1R5 thing.

2)

for O-level track CHS students, HCL is Not compulsory.

O-level students do have a choice.

a)

If Moe has already given your son the HCL eligibility letter, then he (in O-level track) can study HCL from Sec 1.

Three years later, in Sec 3,
he will take O-level (bu-hua) National exam first.

In Sec 4, the following year, then he take O-level (gao-hua) exam next, in the month of November, together with rest of all the other IP students inside the exam hall.

b)

But,
if your son didn't receive any MOE HCL letter, then he will proceed to study CL (bu-hua) in Sec 1, not gao-hua.

However,
when reach the end of his Sec 1 journey -

if O-level track students are keen & interested to study Sec 2 gao-hua, they can appeal to CHS Chinese HOD,

using their Sec 1 Report card (showing bu-hua CL results + overall results in other subjects as well including English, Maths, Science & best performance in Humanities subject). Out of 3 Humanities subjects, choose the best one

=========================

Apart from this HCL thing, two years later, for O-level track CHS students,

at the end of Sec 2 streaming year,
If they are keen to Transfer across to IP starting Sec 3, can approach Principal directly.
P will interview short-listed candidates for suitability, to join Sec 3 IP curriculum.

Once vacancies are released, because successful O-level students have Transferred across into IP, then

the other way round now,
end-of-Y2 students from the IP track who wish to Transfer back to OP quickly to prepare for O-level exam just in time for Upper (Sec 3 and 4) , because after attempted IP for two years, they find that IP doesn't quite suit them after all, they will grab these vacancies eagerly, after seats released by the O-level students who have transferred across successfully into IP (Sec 3).

As you know,
the O-level seats in CHS, are very precious.

Why precious ?

because

every year, at end of Sec 2 streaming, there is a lot of movement

- not just internally within CHS from different OP and IP track only,

- but also from external students studying in other schools locally also seeking transfer into CHS. These pupils can be from any local Sec school.

- as well as students from Asean countries also seeking Transfer in, concurrently.

Transfer Application form, at end of Sec 2, into CHS

https://catholichigh.moe.edu.sg/secondary/admission-to-year-3-integrated-programme/

Hi phtthp,
Are all IP students who take HCL no need to take O-level at Sec 3?
Or this is applied only for CHS?
My DD is going to SCGS IP and eligible to take HMT.
Thank you
