Hi all, my DS is considering CHS for 2022 as it is relatively near our home. How is the school culture like? Academically, is there a high focus with a lot of homework?
What about the school timings? Are there days where school starts later or ends earlier?
Any views are much appreciated! -

Hi there, my child is enjoying his first few mths of sch. All good with the culture. He loved orientation and described much about it. Teachers are also strict as experienced - sch rules are well followed (exceptions still happen like the recent fighting case. but the P made sure that whole sch got its share of 'case study/ reflections' from it)

It's got competitive culture and at least what i heard from him, the boys compete even on highest KM ran. (there is a sch challenge so all classes/ levels join in) :siam:
On sch work, he's definitely not 1 of the top scorers that joined CHS but able to keep on top of hmwork. Doesn't bring home alot of work so far- he completes some work in sch/ after sch during his free time. Work like writing takes longer time so for that, he will usually do at home.
Sch timing is standard. Starting time not much different from pri sch. But it does end later, which is again similar to most sec schs, about 2+ on days without CCAs. On CCA days, can leave sch/ cca only past 6pm-normal timing.
Hope I answered ur qns.

Catholic High is indeed a good school.
I have taught many students from this school before.
One of them even obtained 8 A1 at O Levels.
[ That was before they went IP]
Catholic High curriculum is different from other main stream schools.
They can afford to run the program at their own pace, and even more so that now they are IP.
As their students are academically better, and can learn faster, their questions are more challenging.
The school really stretch them.
All my students from CHS did well in life.
Many went overseas to complete their university under scholarship.
If you need help in the academic aspects, drop us a note.

After end of Y2 IP streaming exercise over,
can name, identify
some of the GCE A-level "Chemistry" topics that are "pulled down" to Upper Sec, start teaching IP students in ( Y3 and Y4 ) CHS-Integrated-curriculum program ? -
The ‘normal’ IP schools like CHS cannot teach too much in advance.
It is the inherent disadvantage of the system.
meaning too much A level materials within the Y3, Y4 program.
Because at Y5, there will be new intake of students from non- IP schools as well.
and because of that - they have to cater to them.
So the normal IP schools will use the ‘extra’ time - to get more depth and width rather than more topics.
And also use the time to cultivate other ‘soft’ skills of the students.
eg Research papers, investigations, presentations etc. -
If there is one topic in Chemistry to extent in Y3 - it could be the electronic shells and the energy levels.

Btw I’ve heard some schs give easier papers for sec 1 CA… but some grill the students from onset. Many friends from other schs shared some of their kids did v well but some from other schs said theirs failed some papers…
Can anyone share what is the CHS style? R the papers challenging coz the sch standard/ students r supposed to be good? or cause it’s first paper, teachers set easier papers or r lenient?
