Just to share my personal opinion of the school as a parent with two children studying at West Spring, and my older child has just graduated from P6 this year.
Throughout the year, I have been talking with friends, whose kids are also taking PSLE, to encourage each other along the way. Inevitably, we compared the level of support given by our kids' schools, though their kids are at branded schools, while mine is at a neighbourhood school. I am really appreciative of the extra revision given to the P6s at WPS (though he had to stay till 3.30pm daily) as I did not send my child for any tuition classes. This surprisingly wasn't provided at the branded schools (after hearing my friends' complaints). As my child's weakest link is oral, his teachers also went the extra mile to give him additional oral practices daily before school assembly.
Like many parents at West Spring, I was concerned about how my child will do for PSLE, given that the school does not have a proven track record as this year is the 2nd batch of students taking PSLE. With its play-based focus, I was also worried if the school's papers were of \"lower\" standard than other schools. The results are out and I am happy to say that my child has done well enough to enter IP schools.
Overall, I feel WPS is a good school as my younger child is also happy there (I am not part of PSG nor a \"cheerleader\") and perhaps positive experiences from other parents have helped elevated it to a popular school that needs balloting each year.

From my experience, WPS mixes students of different academic grades together in one class, so there is no top class. Each class will take the non-core subjects like PE and social studies together but during the core subjects, the students will move around and change classrooms to attend classes with students from other classes who are at the same academic level. This used to be the arrangement prior to COVID-19, so perhaps they might switch to having students of same level of learning in the same class moving forward to reduce the movement of students.

From P2 to P5, students who are identified as weaker in certain subjects will be asked to attend remedial lessons after classes to help them to catch up, while students who are identified as strong in academics will be asked to attend enrichment after classes to develop them further (like ELAP for English, Critical Thinking for Maths, CLAP for Chinese). I know this cos I have one child attending enrichment and the other attending remedial, but I think majority of the students who are coping fairly well in school will not need to stay back.
As for P6 to prepare for PSLE, ALL students will need to stay back daily till 3 plus for extra lessons (which they called PLUS but not sure what it stands for). -
My child has graduated from WPS. It has been a rocky experience for my child. Indeed like some of the parents mentioned there are good teachers and bad ones as well. Not to mention their 1st principal who is always "no no" attitude when you try to feedback about their "not-so-good" teacher. Not sure whether the new male principal will be better to heed feedback from parents so that your child will not continue to suffer at the hands of some monster teachers.
I remember in the WPS parent chat group many parents were complaining about a particular teacher, some parent did take action to talk to the form teacher and principal, but it did not help much. If i can remember is about a female teacher humilating or insulting some of the boys in the class. My child also got the "goodies" from this particular teacher as well. Heard that this teacher is still around. What i did that time is for the teacher to totally condemn my child so that she can forget about him/her. The year was a terrible experience for my child. He/she totally wanted to give up on the subject which is once his/her best subject. My child catch up with his/her studies by going for tuition and own self revision and practicing including constant encourage from parents and tutor. Glad that he/she manage to score well for PSLE and landed on his/her dream school. I want to mention here, this is not and never the credit of the school. I know a handful of students from band 2 or 3 actually score much better than band 1 class student in PSLE. Should they thank the teachers for condemning them and they excel on their own?
But i want to tell parents, do not underestimate or ignore your child feedback about their teacher especially in West Spring. I found that the teachers like to play with strategies, they always like to assume your child is lazy, not working hard etc…in fact our child is suffering in school under their "bullies". As parent, we need to believe our child and give them support too. Today school "bullies" are not limited to classmates, but from teachers as well. Because the teachers are in the upper hands in such situation, if you feedback to the school, it will be a hell for your child. So my approach then was to ask my child not to take too seriously what the negative teacher had told him, don’t let it affect him/her.
Other than some "black sheep" in the school, the school is considered just a normal neighbourhood school. Please do not "over-market" the school. Just because you are in the PSG and the teacher give your child "some faces", doesn’t mean the school is so "super". Parents do not send their child to WPS to get insulted, humuliated or bullied by the teachers just because they do not match their expectations. -

I enrolled my kids in west spring in pri 1 back in 2016, withdrew them fr the school shortly after 6 mths and trsf them to bpps instead. Didn’t like west spring right at the beginning. The first principal which was a lady i feel was very controlling and overprotective of the teachers. Cannot do this n that and many rules that does not make sense. And the indian discipline mistress was shouting over the microphone at the students during assembly. My kids hardly made any frens there nor talk anything abt the school there in the 6 mths. Transferring them to bpps was the best decision made. my kids made frens quickly and the teachers were nice n took good care of my kids. I too was taken in by the good reviews (prob the oversupportive psg??) of west spring, luckily i managed to get my kids out in time. Both of them did very well for psle in bpps and are in IP schools now.

I am a little taken aback and frankly disappointed with WSP.
When the results for the P4 mathematics paper were given back, the paper was set so tough. there were literally classes of failures. I looked through the paper and shocked to see it set at that level. it was just too difficult. many parents were upset. the p5 english paper had a few errors as well. these are exam papers. it should not be like that. in the other schools, the p6 kids r getting ready for psle. i don't know if those kids r ready or not.
i feel like something is off about this school. understand that holistic education is important. being a well-rounded person is important. but that does not mean that academics take a back seat.
there is an arrogance to this sch that i cannot stand. it's one thing to think u r good, it's another thing to actually be good. my suggestion is to consider other schools. not just for the academic but they are doing things for the kids, not for the school image. -
