Hi. I don't think there is really any great MRT route from that area (requires multiple changes). However, it looks like Bus #157 is a direct route to/from (no changes). On the way to school, can get off at NJC bus stop and cross the road via overpass. At the end of the day can either go to Chinese High bus stop or Opposite NJC bus stop and grab the return bus (either of these bus stop should be fine; probably a question of which way more friends are going as they walk out).

hi HCI parents and students, the S1 posting is currently underway. I’m keen to find out more about HCI for my child. He has scored AL6 with a merit in HCL (6M), i guess it translates to approx (259-261 +1?)
The indicative cut off for HCI under the new AL system is 4D - 7M hence I’m concerned that my child, even if he is able to get in, may not be able to cope with the workload.
I’ve read that HCI students are independent learners which worries me a little because i do have to nag at my boy to revise more at times.
Appreciate if anyone in similar situation can share how you/your child’s experience is like
:thankyou: -

Hi and congrats! First, 6(M) is a very good score. I wouldn't worry about exactly how it translates to the old t-score or whether he can cope relative to the indicative range of 4(D) - 7(M) just based on score alone. I think the score itself indicates he is more than sufficient/plenty capable.

As for the learning style, I think there is somewhat of a change the boys need to deal with. There are obviously more subjects and other time demands with CCA, etc. Additionally, most of the core subjects are probably 3x per week (vs. everyday except for Science in Primary school) and this requires the kids to stay on top of things and plan ahead a bit at times (cannot let tons of work across multiple subjects pile up or expect to cram for multiple exams all a day or two in advance).
That being said, I think many of the boys have some adjustment to go through so it won't be unique to your child and the classroom instruction plus some revision seems to be adequate for most to do well. The year 1 promotion criteria is also set in a way that gives the boys time to adjust (need average grade of C6, which is 50%, with 50%+ in EL and HCL), and most will have figured it out by the second half of the year (if not earlier).
I cannot say for sure but I don't think the above is really unique to HCI. My guess is that every IP school requires the kids to do some of the above, and things are a lot more similar than different if you were to compare across the various IP offerings. Anyways, at 6(M) he should have a lot of choices, so just go with what feels best. Good luck!
BTW, HCI also has webinar at 10:30 AM today if you guys are interested.
