Every year, a student taking Chinese has a choice of sitting for 2 rounds of Chinese exam.

      For this year,
      1st round in 30/5/22,
      2nd round in 8/11/22.

      ——

If you take higher Chinese, some schools don’t require you to take the o-level Chinese. Just take the higher Chinese paper in sec 4. Do they have listening/oral for o-level higher Chinese too?[/quote]
No LC for HCL Sec 4 O levels.

Students doing Sec 3 HCL in IP schools like HCI and NYGH do not need to take O level Chinese as IP students do not sit for O levels.

However, Sec 4 HCL IP students of NYGH and HCI must score minimum B3 to qualify for JC - Year 5. Otherwise, they have to retake Higher Chinese again.

Thank u for the reply, sembgal!

.. I think most IP schools don’t require their students to take o-level Chinese when they take higher Chinese. I’m glad my child’s school didn’t impose a minimum B3 grade, to drop Chinese in Year 5. However, I think most of the students would target to have a distinction in Chinese.

Out of curiosity, does their higher Chinese o-level grade appear in their A-level certificate? Is it useful for uni/RP90 calculation?

            1)

for IP ( SAP ) schools
(Hwa Chong & Nanyang Girls High),

minimum is B3 score, for O-level (Higher Chinese), taken in Sec 4.

Otherwise, failure to score B3 means still have to re-take in Junior College level.

            2) for O-level ( SAP ) schools,

            a)

for Sec 3 HCL students studying inside
(Chung Cheng High & Anglican High),

If failed to score minimum B3 in November O-level (pu-hua or Standard Chinese exam subject code 1160),

students have to drop HCL in Sec 4, re-take their O-level (pu-hua) in Sec 4 instead, so as to improve their \"pu-hua\" grade, in computing L1R5.

            b)

How about the other two SAP schools
( Nan Chiau and Nan Hua ) High ?
Do these two SAP schools' Sec 3 HCL students
behave in the same identical manner, as

(Chung Cheng and Anglican ) High, or different ?

            Because

St Nick (also another SAP school), don't do such thing.

Even if St Nick Sec 3 HCL students scored (B4, C5, C6) in their November O-level (pu-hua),

Sec 4 students are still allowed to continue with HCL,
so as to clear O-level (HCL) quickly and
            get 2 points discounted,
            during their computation of L1R5.

Are your kids in SAP schools too? I think most of them do well in Chinese, especially in the environment where everyone is immersed in the culture, so the requirements are not reaching for the moon at all. Although it looks or may seem so when you list them or compare them.

Chen laoshi (in this forum) can help your Sec 3 HCL child, because he also give private tuition \"1 to 1\", to help speed up the pupil's learning, faster.

                    Hi

I would like to ask where can I get more challenging O level Chinese Listening Comprehension practice book ?

                    https://www.openschoolbag.com.sg/product/o-level-chinese-listening-comprehension-practice-qr

From a student’s POV, this book is good but the actual O level Listening Comprehension past years papers are much more difficult than the exercises in this book.

Please kindly suggest some LC books available.
