For Year 5, my son is thinking of taking 2 science subjects and 1 Maths. He’s deciding between Economics or History. He’s interested in History but worried about the content load of History. He heard his friends said Economics is “lighter” but this is a new subject which he hasn’t touched before. Any advice from parents in relation to these 2 subjects pls? Thanks.
My daughter was in RI about 5 yrs ago, and did PCME. I don't think she seriously considered History, not because of the content load so much as not much interest. Econs is not exactly content-light either, but not as much historical fact to remember. However, there is quite a lot of economic theory etc, and also requires some mathematical ability. The 2 subjects require different ways of thinking.

My suggestion is that your son ask some seniors who have taken these 2 subjects, maybe ask to look as some of the course materials, and which History topics are in the A level syllabus. That could help him decide.

Unless things have changed since my daughter's time (about 5-6 yrs ago), there is no booklist for most A level subjects. The JCs give out copious and comprehensive notes. There may be books needed for subjects like Lit, but none for my daughter's which were PCME. My other daughter took Geog (different school), and there was no textbook for that either. I would suggest you wait till school starts and the teachers will say what is required.

I was too anxious about being 'bookless' and bought a few textbooks even though they weren't required, and I don't think my daughter touched any of them! Luckily I bought 2nd hand as new ones are very expensive. And because new editions are produced very frequently, they lose resale value after a short time.

Agree with slmkhoo, no need for any textbook. DS just completed his A level this Dec. He only used the sch printed materials and recorded videos to prep for it. I think the printed materials were also made available online. I've not seen him touch any textbook the last 2 years.

Hi, can I check if it’s advisable to travel during March one week holiday for y6. Would there be extra lessons during this holiday week?

Iirc, ds had intensive sports training during the Mar hols but no lessons. Best is to drop an email to your kid's CT for confirmation. From my experience, his CT's response was prompt.

Does RI uses full uniform everyday or they use half u only? Are there restrictions with shoe colour?
