Hi! I would like to ask about the Literature Mentorship Programme.

I’m in sec 2 this year, and my teacher mentioned about it yesterday. I am interested in the programme. The teacher mentioned something about a selection test. So, what is the selection test like? And what do the people in the programme do? Is there an interview? Or is the selction is just a pen and paper test? How long will the programme last? And how many people does it take?

Hi @KiasuNewbie, I'm currently in Sec 3 (I'm using my parent's account to respond to your query) and I was in the Literature Mentorship programme last year (2022).

The selection test is a pen-and-paper test, which is basically your literary response to a text, quite similar to a Sec 1 LA Paper 3 assessment. We're not allowed to disclose the questions but essentially if you love reading and are interested in literature, you should go for it!

For my batch, about 23 of us were accepted based on how we fared in the diagnostic test and sometimes our LA teachers' recommendations.

For us, Literature Mentorship lessons commenced in Term 2 Week 3 and our last lesson was in Term 3 Week 8/9.

As you may have noticed, some LA periods in the Sec 2 timetable are called LA Lecture, which is when the Literature Mentorship students go for the sessions, so you would have to take some time to do the additional readings (if any) and catch up on what was taught in the LA lessons.

In Literature Mentorship, we learnt about some literary theories and read and discussed some texts (including poetry and short stories), and at the end of the programme, we have to work on our Inquiry Project (individual or in a group) on any topic of our choice, which is due the next year in around February (in fact some groups are still working on theirs), and will be posted on a website accessible for all students. There was originally a physical presentation in school but that has been affected due to the pandemic.

We will also be talking about Literature Mentorship on CREATE Day, though that would probably be after the selections for your year have been made.

Personally, I really appreciate the space Literature Mentorship gave me to make some new friends, explore literature concepts and study works (especially when working on my Inquiry Project). Many of us have gone on to study Literature in Upper Secondary and some have even been accepted into the school's Humanities Programme.

I'm glad to hear that you're interested and I hope my response helps šŸ™‚ I think you should go for it, no harm trying šŸ˜„

If you have already accepted ESIS Independent school award from NYGH / RGS ,
            then

No more Top (10% or 25%) cohort award nor Good Progress Academic award anymore.
            Not applicable anymore

            but
still have the Eagles award, if u get selected. Eagles got nothing to do with Academic

hi i’m new here. Anyone (or kid) has tried to DSA using Service Leadership or Bilingualism or chinese calligraphy? May I know what needs to be prepared for the interview? Is there an onsite project to be done or need to prepare a portfolio of certificates/awards?

What does Service Leadership mean? Does it mean that the child needs to serve in the community at large? If no experience, will a recommendation letter from the current P6 CCA teacher help? Is the DSA intake for leadership higher than most CCAs?

Hi hi, does anyone here know what is the process for NYGH's suppliers to bid for any of their requirement? Other independent schools like ACS, MGS and SCGS go through portals like GeBiz (Government Procurement Biz Portal), and I know HCI has a Procurement Portal on their website. But can't seem to find any for NYGH. Anyone can enlighten? I'm not a supplier btw šŸ™‚ just concerned about how school funds are being used.
