      Hi,
May I understand the degree of self directed learning in DHS? As I understand that most IP schools emphasize more on self directed learning, will the child be able to cope well? How's the intensity of the teachers' coaching in class? Will it be more of self learning approach and lesser on teachers' guidance? Hope somebody can share their experiences. Also, can anyone share the school hours as well? Read from the previous post, the school will be starting at 8am and ending at 3pm excluding CCA? Will there be any HBL days?
Quite a lot of self directed learning involved, including homework. Each student will be issued with a school's email account and you have to check it daily as the teacher may communicate the homework assignments needed to be completed including the deadlines via email so if you dont check it, you may miss out on the required assignments.

If your child is disciplined and does own studying / homework without need for constant monitoring and nagging.
is self directed & likes unstructured learning like project work etc, he/she should be fine.

School officially starts at 8am but you have to reach school gate physically by about 7.45am / 7.50am to reach to the hall/class or you will likely be late for school.
On Wednesdays school starts at 9am, reach about 8.45am will be fine. HBL days are on Wednesdays on certain weeks but sometimes on HBL days also have to go back to school if its required.

School dismissal is generally around 3.20pm if you have no remedial classes, MEP / 3rd language classes.
For CCA days, twice a week dismissal is at 6pm (official timing) but sometimes actual dismissal time is 6+pm if it overruns.
On other days if required eg for SYF rehearsals or for performance rehearsals also have to stay back after school till about 6+pm.

Hi, my dd visited DHS today and like her interaction with the students. At AL9, what is the chance for her to be accepted as first choice? 2nd choice Chung Cheng, 3rd TKSS… if 1st choice no luck, will she lose her 2nd n 3rd choice too? Thank you.

Dunman High Cut off point usually hover around AL 8 (Merit). Unlikely, to hit AL 9.

          It was

IP (Temasek JC and River Valley High), that ever hit AL 9 before. But, not Dunman High

Hi I’d like to ask, is it true that DHS Junior High starts school 1 week later than the usual MOE academic calendar? i.e. next year although officially school starts on 2 Jan (Tue), the Year 1s will actually only report to school on 8 Jan (Mon)?

Also, I heard that under this current principal, there are some changes to the policy of wearing school uniform vs PE tshirts, i.e. advocate wearing the school uniform more often. Can I get some advise on how many sets of each type of uniform we should prepare?

Lastly, the PLD is provided by school FOC or we need to purchase and usually how much does it cost?

              Thanks in advance!

Have another question on the promotion criteria to year 5. In neighbour schools, there’s CCA points advantage when applying to JC so in DHS, promotion to year 5, will there be such consideration?

Year 1s will usually start the following week. Subsequent years however, students may need to go back for CCA related activities / to prepare for orientation activities etc.

PE shirts can only be worn during PE classes. Students have to change into their PE shirts before the lesson and change back out after PE class to either uniform / DHS shirt depending on which day of the week their PE class falls on.

You can wait to receive the official instructions from the school after secondary school posting result is released. The school will inform you on the details eg. reporting day / time , attire to wear for the 1st week during orientation week. Attire to wear for a general school week and recommended sets of each type of clothes to purchase, booklist etc. PLD details will be provided by the school in due course too when school term commences.

Promotion from Year 4 - Year 5 is subjected to the requirements of GPA to be met, which is different from the calculation of points for students who are applying to join from other schools for senior high level.
CCA will be converted to GPA points depending on level of attainment. Details and calculation can be found in the student handbook provided to students by the school.
