        [quote=\"Herbie\"]I have one qn.

        Easiest method ... Divide all numbers in pattern by 2

        last nos. In each row will be
        Row 1 = 1
        Row 2 = 4
        Row 3 = 9
        Row 4 = 16
        .
        .
        Row 10 = 100

        Now multiply by 2 ... 100 x 2 = 200

        Now if last no. is 288
        Half it we get 144 ... Square root of 144 is 12

        So , if the last no of a row is 288, the row no is row 12

            Hi Almighty

            The left most box should be 24 instead of 4. Looks like the '2' is missing.

            If true then, if u multiply the numbers in the top 2 boxes and subtract the number in the bottom box from the answwer u got earlier, you get 4.

            Pattern 1 => (24 x 6) - 144 = 4
            Pattern 2 => (37 x 7) - 241 = 4
            Pattern 3 => (41 x 6) - ? = 4

            Missing number = (41 x 6) - 4 = 242

              I have one qn.

              1. Sam took 5 hours to travel from Town A to Town B.
              Ruth started at the same time as Sam and took 3 hours to drive from Town B to Town A.
              When they met each other, they were 30km away from the midpoint of Town A and Town B.

              What is the distance btw Town A and Town B?
              What was Sam’s average speed?

              Tx

                When Sam and Ruth met each other, they both travelled the same time (so, time is fixed)

                Speed ratio => Sam : Ruth = 3 : 5
                Distance ratio => Sam : Ruth = 3 : 5
                (5u – 3u )/ 2= 1u = 30

                Distance between Town A and B = 8u = 8 x 30km = 240km

                Sam’s average speed = 240km/ 5hrs = 48km/hr

                  Can anyone post a solution for this speed question?

                  Kumar and Clara started jogging along a circular track.
                  Kumar started at Point M while Clara started at Point N where the line MN formed the diameter of the circle.
                  Kumar and Clara jogged toward each other along the circular track from their respective starting point and first met at Point P which was 80 m from Point M.
                  After they met for the first time, they continued jogging along the track and finally met again for the second time at Point Q which was 60 m from Point N. Find the distance of the circular track.

                  Thank you so much.

                    Hi Dharma,

                    My solution is slightly different from yours, please see below:

                    Time ratio => Sam : Ruth = 5 : 3
                    Speed ratio => Sam : Ruth = 3 : 5
                    5u – 3u = 2u = 30

                    But yours is a speed and distance ratio

                    Speed ratio => Sam : Ruth = 3 : 5
                    Distance ratio => Sam : Ruth = 3 : 5

                    Is my solution correct?

                    I have another speed qn.

                    Rose and Stella travelled from Town A to Town B along the same road but at different speeds.
                    Rose started her journey 45 min earlier than Stella but Stella reached Town B 20 minutes earlier.

                    When Stella reached Town B, Rose had travelled 7/8 of the journey and was 25 km away from Town B.
                    If Rose and Stella travelled at a constant speed.

                    a. What is the distance btw TOwn A and B? is the ans 175km?
                    b. What speed was Rose travelling at?
                    c. How long did Stella take to travel from Town A to Town B.

                    Tx

                      I have one qn.

                      A man spent 1/5 of his money on clothes and a few sevenths on food.
                      He has $152 left. How much did he spend on fooD?

                      Tx
                      Clothes => 1/5
                      Food +> ?/7 (a few sevenths) =>
                      We take LCM of 5 and 7 to get 35

                      Clothes = 7u
                      Balance = 28u ( Food + $152)
                      Food = Multiple of 5u

                      152 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 19 = 8 x 19

                      28u – 8u = 20u [ multiple of 5u]
                      8u = $152
                      1u = $19

                      Food => 20 x $19 = $380

                        Hi Herbie,

                        The question is telling us when Sam and Ruth meet, they are 30km away from the mid-point of Town A and Town B

                        You have considered distance as fixed (From Town and Town B) and you found the time and speed ratios but you cannot mix speed/time with distance in an addition/subtraction equation.

                        The 30km given is DISTANCE ….you cannot subtract time /speed between Sam and Ruth and equate it to distance.

                        You need to understand what the qn is asking us and apply the appropriate ratio to solve the question.

                        The question is about meeting of 2 persons. For meeting questions; we know time taken is the same IF both departed at the same time. (Time is constant)

                        We know the time ratio …. But we need to find the distance ratio. REASON : Qn gives us the difference in distance travelled by Sam and Ruth. (i.e. 30km)
