Congratulations Marc! Welcome to the Tao Nan family. May I inquire how the ballot process goes? Was the balloting only for those living within 1 km or for everyone who registered in Phase 2B including those living outside 1 km? I understand the applicants living within 1 km already exceeded the number of places so was wondering whether this means those outside 1km will automatically be dropped. I have a friend who will be registering next year and they live between 1 to 2km. Judging from this year's results, they are quite worried now.

        Thanks for sharing.

the balloting is only for those staying within the distance being balloted. For this yearโ€™s phase 2B, it is within 1km. All applicants staying > 1km are not successful.

Is your friend under phase 2B or 2C? For past years, phase 2C have been balloting for within 1km.

When a school is oversubscribed (more applicants than places available), the seats are allocated according to proximity. This is clearly stated in MOE's website: http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/faqs/#balloting

            19. What are the guidelines to be used for balloting when the number of applications exceed the number of vacancies from Phase 2A1 to Phase 2C(Supplementary)?

Balloting will be conducted within the school premises and priority will be given in the following order. From 2010, Singapore Citizens will be given two ballot slips for each child, while Singapore Permanent Residents will continue to get one ballot slip per child.

a.Children living within 1 km of the school of choice.
b.Children living between 1 km and 2 km of the school of choice.
c.Children living outside 2 km of the school of choice.
If the number of children in category (1) is less than the number of vacancies, all these children should be allocated places without balloting. If after allocation of places to these children and places are still available, priority will be given to those in category (2). If places are still available after category (2) has been considered, children in category (3) will be considered.

If the number of children under the category being considered is more than the vacancies available, balloting will be conducted for that category only.

This year we had to ballot for < 1km. Given the condos that are coming up around the area, I think this will be the trend for 2B going forward. I was also part of the 2B balloting yesterday and it was so stressful! They will put your childโ€™s ballot slip (2 for citizens, 1 for PR) into a big bowl then parents queue to pick one slip. They will announce the name and paste the slip onto a big whiteboard.

:congrats: to all who succeeded in the balloting.

For those who did not get balloted in and those registering at Phase 2C, wishing you all the best.

My friend has joined SHHK and also is an active grassroot leader. Unfortunately, his address is within 1 to 2 km of TNS. I guess he will have to cross his fingers!

IMO, your friend's chance is very very slim, crossing fingers won't help much. I do believe henceforth TNS will be balloting within 1km for phase 2B & 2C. Too many new condos & apartment within 1km to TNS.

                      ksme,

tankee is right .... balloting for 1-2km will be a matter of the past with effect from 2010.

balloting will be for those within 1km.

Parents will try within their means to be within 1 km of 2B.
Though now its NO longer a guaranteed place.

UNLESS lesser siblings..old boys/gals. Then its still possible.
