Hi there, please help me solve this Maths questn for my daughter.

I have no idea how to solve. Thanx!

Mary and Ken travelled from Town A to Town B. Mary left Town A at 0915 and took 4h to reach Town B. Ken left Town A at 1000 and took 2h 45min to reach Town B. At what time did Ken pass Mary?

      Hi Biscuitqueen,

Here's my solution. 🙂 Hope it helps!

      Cheers,
      MathsGuru

      Hello,

I believe this is the 3rd time I am highlighting the same issue in this forum. For the benefit of those taking PSLE 2010, I will repeat it for the very last time. Please note that the below statement will be marked wrong.

      10 am + 1 h 39 min = 11.39 am

You will easily lose 1 mark for mixing Time with Duration.

            Hi Markfch,

You can guide your DS slowly to draw the model out for this diagram. My advice to my students is to let the person with smallest no. of items, weight, money, etc (in this case, age) be 1 unit. In algebraic terms, this will be \"x\". 🙂

Here's my solution for your reference.

            Cheers,

              Hello Mathguru,

How do you solve this question?

A box of donuts is shared equally among Clara,Siti and Joy. Clara divided her share into 3 equal packets. Siti divided her share into 4 equal boxes.Joy divided her share into 6 equal boxes. The total number of donuts in 2 of Clara's boxes, 3 of Siti's boxes and 3 of Joy's boxes is 138. What is the total number of donuts in the box at first?

EDIT: I got the answer 216, is it correct?

              Hi Skydust,

Yes, your answer is correct! I've done up a model diagram for your reference. The trick here is to use LCM to obtain a common no. of units for each of them.

              🙂

                Hi
                Thank you for your offer.

1)During a warehouse book sale, Sally spent 62.5% of her money on 24 books and 18 pens. She also spent 25% of her remaining money on 18 files. Each pen costs 8/9 as much as the price of one book. The file costs $7.80 less than a book. Find the total cost of one book and one pen.

2)Mr Lim spent $1496 on some comics and dictionaries altogether. The number of comics bought to the number of dictionaries bought was in the ratio of 3 : 2. A dictionary cost $4 more than a comic. The total cost of the comics was 20% more than the total cost of the dictionaries. Find the cost of a dictionary.
