Thanks Mrs Wong:)

The distance between Town A and Town B is 12 km 400 m and between Town A and Town C is 26 km. Tom travelled from Town A to Town B and then returned to Town A before going to Town C. What was the total distance Tom travelled?
It's not a trick question.
|---------------26km-----------------|
|----12km400m----|----------------|
A`````````````B``````````C
Tom travelled from Town A to Town B
From Town A to Town B = 12km 400m
then returned to Town A
From Town B to Town A = 12km 400m
before going to Town C
From Town A to Town C = 26km
TOTAL DISTANCE TRAVELLED:
12km400m + 12km400m + 26km = 50km 800m -
Another question 4)
2/5 of Limin's money can buy 40 books. How many books can she buy with 3/4 of her money?
Thanks !mrswongtuition:
Ali's Savings:Ngserene617:
Hi,
Anyone can solve this:
Ali spent 1/3 of his saving on a pen. He spent 1/4 of the remainder on a book. If he had $38 left, how much he have at the beginning ?
[/////][-----][-----]
[Pen ][remainder]
1/4 of 2 units = 1/2 unit
Redraw the model:
[///][///][---][---][---][---]
[--pen--][---remainder---]
```````[bk ]
Now, 1/4 of the remainder is used to buy a book.
Which means the Ali has a total of 6 units in savings and has 3 units left.
3 units = $38
6 units = $38 x 2 = $76 -
Hi,
Need help to solve this :
Mary bought a leather bag with 3/7 of her money. She spent the remainder on 14 pairs of socks which cost $6 each pair. How much was the leather bag ?
Thanks!
2/5 =8/20Another question 4)
2/5 of Limin's money can buy 40 books. How many books can she buy with 3/4 of her money?
Thanks !
¾ = 15/20
2/5 (or 8/20) of her money => 40 books
1/20 of her money => 5 books
So,
¾ (or 15/20) of her money => 15 x 5 = 75 books -
Q1)Hi MathsGuru,
Pls help to solve these for me:
1. Nigel has $145. He donated 2/5 to charity. Of the remainder, he gave 1/6 to his sister. How much did he give to his sister ?
2. Mary bought a leather bag with 3/7 of her money. She spent the remainder on 14 pairs of socks which cost $6 each pair. How much was the leather bag?
Thanks !
Remainder after donating to charity = 3/5 x $145 = $87
Gave to sister => 1/6 x $87 = $14.50
Q2)
Remainder after buying leather bag => 14 x $6 = $84
Remainder => 4/7 of her money = $84
Cost of leather bag => 3/7 of her money = $84/4 x 3 = $63 -
Hi MathsGuru,
1.Nigel and Kimberly have $820 altogether. Nigel has $60 more than Kimberly. What fraction is Nigel's money of the total?
2. There are 567 students in a school. 4/7 are boys and the rest are girls. There are 9 times as many girls as there are teachers. How many teachers are there ?
