[Yishun] Primary Schools
-
Hi all,
i've previously shared in the forum in oct last year, that i was toying with the idea of transfering my son from Fuchun Pri to Chongfu, thou i know Chongfu has a much higher standards in terms of academics.
Applied anyhow, and was told to attend an entrance test which took one full day! thank god, the school admin called an hour later after his tests at 5pm to congratulate us!
I've never regretted much in my decision for transferring him there, personally felt that the students, culture and academics are the way above my mark. though i must say, my son, had about 3 months of accustomization. he had no friends, and no one to play with nor go recess with initially, but thank god, things are picking up now. the school also adopts a better working relationship with the parents and are constantly in contact with us with regards to their progress in school.
the other worry was whether he can catch up with the difference in the standards, had to grill him harder, and all's paid well now... talk about super kiasuism.
so, parents, do not hesitate anymore! -
I was wondering whether CF still have high standard in chinese? we qualified for phase 2A, but Iβm not so keen to put my boy there. reason being, when I was in CF, chinese is a very important subject. so much tha I only concentrated on chinese and neglected english.furthermore, textbooks are in english, so, I was thinking is chinese really tat important?
-
i do not think my girl will do well in chinese even if she goes into CF, cos her exposure to the language currently is not optimal in my opinion. of course, that is the fault of the parents and is a different subject β¦
but i think chinese is important cos the culture builds certain fundamentals that are important in todayβs world. again, that is my humber opinion based on my own experience.
so its not so much for the academics, but more for the overall immersion in a certain culture. and the output arising from that.
JMHO. -
I have a friend, also qualified for phase 2A for CF but send her son to a neighbourhood school instead. Her reason is she don't find the school so good leh.
I was like :? . If the school not good, then why so many people want to get in? -
hi nmhmum, ya. I also quite funny why so many parents still send their child to CF seems the feedback not as good as thought. But personally I think coz CF is giving higher Chinese hence people may think it must be good.
My colleague who send her kid to those SAP school with higher Chinese but the parents speak English with them. I really doubt how the kids can build the interest in Chinese since the environment is not encouraging at all. What is the purpose of having Higher Chinese if the kid doesn't like Chinese?
:? Anyway, no offense.
As mentioned, I was told and read frm other forum CF is good in language whereas Northland is good in Math and Science. My kids child care has after and before school care student. Happen spoke to the principal about the standard of Northland. She said no doubt in Northland's math compared to other neighbourhood school. This 2 subjects are what I am looking compared others. I prefer my kids doing well in other subject rather than Eng and Chinese. -

Congrats xvirusga! Great to hear from you again! Dreams do come true, especially if we believe in them and make them happen! I'm very happy for you, and what you went through is an inspiration for other parents who may fail in their attempt to get their children to go into their desired schools.... i've previously shared in the forum in oct last year, that i was toying with the idea of transfering my son from Fuchun Pri to Chongfu, thou i know Chongfu has a much higher standards in terms of academics.

Hi cmyesther,
Initially I also thought the same as you that Maths & Science are more important, but after witnessing my nephew's case, I realised that actually all subjects are equally important. My nephew's Maths & Science are always top in class, but his Chinese is really terrible. His Engish is around average. So when he sat for his PSLE a few years back, he got 2 A* ( Maths & Science), 1A ( English) and C for the Chinese. His agg score is only around 235. The reason his teacher gave was the Maths & Science only takes up 50% each wherelse the English & Chinese takes up 100% each.He got a friend who got As for his languages but B and C for his Maths & Science. His friend's agg score is better than him. -
