All About Primary School Math Enrichment

Oh, many centers having 1.5 to 2 hr huh? I newbie to enrichment center coz ds only 7 years old, P1 now (exams start tomorrow!), and only attended a year of Kumon for Maths, so can't comment very much on other brand names too.
Kumon was only 45min x 2 session per week for $120, resonable price for a K2 kid, but it's practice after practice, not so \"enjoyable\" for him. Since he started P1 and was getting homework from teachers, he would frown when asked to do the drills from Kumon. So I stopped it 2 months ago.
I brought ds to City Square Mall during Children's Day weekend and happened to see Soma school's booth there. So ds played with their math toys and he enjoyed trying to figure out the solution -- he likes anything that is related to play! That's when I took a peek at their center.
I found a thread by Soma in Kiasu parents and went to their blog. They are actually \"imported\" brand name from Korea, just like Kumon was imported from Japan. So probably got some \"background\" la!

For the camps, I'm still digging into my shallow pockets, trying to decide which camp to join coz due to time constraint, can only fit in a 1 week camp in Dec. Will share if he goes for their holiday camp.

Both of my kids are 9 and 10, They are doing Kumon now and I think they are great, only 15 mins for them plus school home work, piano practice and swimming that’s enough, They need to be a kid too

Enopi from Korea, MPM and CMA from Taiwan, Kumon and Sakamoto from Japan, homegrown ones are Maths arena, VIP learning, etc etc ... Hehe, after you plough through the entire Maths thread, you will become an expert. In fact, information overload :faint:Oh, many centers having 1.5 to 2 hr huh? It is a website full of free math practice, English programs, social studies and Gifted & Talented programs. My little James started school last year, but he really hated the boring math. Then his teacher recommended Beestar to us. He began to like doing the weekly math practice, because there are interesting stories and vivid pictures for kids. He also likes checking the honor roll every week, and he is so happy when his name appears. Registering as parent, I can receive the Email from beestar every week to notice me how James was doing in beestar. I am considering registering other programs for him. -
Hi, I need feedback on The Learning Lab. I heard that they are very good but are the good in all subjects or certain subject? How abt Maths?

Just heard that there will be more n more problem sum for Maths (DS in P2 for 2011) n MPM will not be suitable. Was told to go for Just Education.
DS started Jelic and follow with MPM.
Like to hv some feedback.

Actually MPM has changed their workbooks over the past few years. I guess it was because of parents like me who complain that their workbooks are lack of problem sums questions. So now, it has more problem sums. In fact, all workbooks has problem sums starting maybe second half of Pri 1 (can’t really remember as their workbooks has to be returned after completion). I find MPM is a good Maths foundation for lower primary school students (K1 to P2). But you must find the right MPM centre with qualify & experience teacher as I have came across 1 centre in the East that I find the teacher is not qualify to teach (although the centre-in-charge said that she was trained). Make sure there are at least 2 teachers in the centre as this would really help your child to complete his/her workbooks faster in the centre. Good luck!
