Hi! All,
Which shcool? Do you know?
meimeitan :? -
yes, which school? Did the school take any action? Our children might be the next victim.
-
both parents of the bullies should be given public caning in front of their children and the whole school.
-
I actually find the hardline views here fairly disturbing.

To add on to violence games, shows, etc, some parents are also treating their children as if they are so precious.these children often think they are king or queen, because they are treated as king or queen at home. So they can anyhow bully or treat other kids as if they are rubbish/xia deng ren (low class people).too much violence on tv and internet, dvd, violent cartoons & games etc
reap what you sow -

Totally agree.3Boys:
So, what is the predominant sentiment here then? At 7 y.o. should the bullies be punished severely, or given some form of counselling and cut some slack?
They should be punished, counselled and then given the chance to experience being bullied 1st hand! That should do the trick. Children are a reflection of their parents. So may be parents should be \"shamed\" too!
And with SGreans being so face conscious... shaming shld be more effective than other punshment.
Shame the bully, parents and the school. -
Bullying in schools have been happening since time immemorial, long before internet.
Many of the bullies have self image issues, come from broken families.
Although their behaviour cannot be condoned, just whipping them and then leaving them to their own devices is not the solution. Next thing they are at Bukit Panjang slashing passers-by.
Punishment and discipline needs to be coupled with compassion and rehab, no matter how distasteful that may be to the parents of the victims. -

If the kids are beyond parental control... esp at such young age... then something is very wrong... and the last thing on my mind is compassion.Bullying in schools have been happening since time immemorial, long before internet.

Spare the rod... spoil the child.
They can only get worst when older...
Besides bullies... parents should teach their kids how to deal with bullies... and be aware of what's going on in sch.
To let the tauntings escalate to become beatings... all parties are at fault. -
What about
1. Counseling for both the kid and the parent/ guardian
2. Apology to the child whom they bullied
3. Some form of ways to make up for what they did-like  some form of community service e.g. Taking care of the school's garden/mini zoo. think up their own project e.g. create a notice board about not bullying and calling people names (Not too sure how practical these ideas is given the school's resources though)
