North? :? A bit tough for me since I am in North East, but no harm trying ...

CCH Yishun might be a bit risky for you since their COP has remained at 230 for the past two years.

Heard that Ahmad Ibrahim is not bad and it's in Yishun and I think you stand a good chance if you put that in.

No comments about Mayflower and Orchid Park though.

Holy Innocents and Nan Chiau might be a bit far for you.

Not sure if this link is of any help to you :

You are right. Ahmad Ibrahim is not bad. The staff culture there is good (happy teachers = good teaching = students benefit).

Holy Innocent High is not recommended.

What's the COP for CCH(Y)?

Mayflower is not bad.

Again, for those in the north and got around 208 - 230, I would recommend that you check out Peirce Secondary School.
They are strict on discipline. Small school of 6 classes per level, usually 4 Express and 2 NA. They got NO NT students in this school (plus point for parents worried abt 'bad influences').
The COP for CCH(Y) is 230. Wat do u think of Beatty Secondary???
I would like to find out.... :? :?: :stupid: :!: 😐

Don't have friends in Beatty at the moment so can't help much on seeking more info about the school (that you can't find on their website).

Since you are in Hougang, here are some suggestions for you (not in any order though) :

Holy Innocents
Bowen
Seng Kang
North Vista
Hougang
St Gabriel's

Wow 25hourmaid,

U are fast... really thanks for your advise!!! phew... at least have a idea where to go onward... thanks for helping to trim it down...

Based on 25hourmaid's recommendation, my preferred order:
Bowen
St Gab
NV
SK
HG
Holy Innocent

I have friends teaching in all the above schools and I've been to Bowen to invigilate πŸ˜„

My preference is based not only on academic results produced by the school but also discipline and character building :D
Great!!! thanks to mrswongtuition!!!!

Actually do plan to put Bowen in 1st choice, and really thanks for your info... :celebrate:

Maybe you can state his score here and tell us what type of help you need? E.g. Recommend schools to him?

Both JCs have their merits. There are people in RGS who still end up transferring to HC because of their Humanities Programme.

I agree with meow_ as I don't think that \"RJC is top by a mile\" in every department; both HCI and RI has her strengths and weaknesses. It is better to match her interests with the strengths of the secondary school (and the JC eventually).

Have you actually seen the A level results? Just to fill you in. RJC had 362 students with perfect 80 points for entry to Uni. That is out of a cohort of 1285. (28.2%). Hwa Chong had 212 out of 1104 perfect scores (19.2%)
should NOT be basing your assessment on just ONE year's results; I can pick a different year where HCI outperforms RI, no? For the sake of discussion, do you know which JC produces more President's Scholars?

My point really is to take care to match your child's interests to the strengths of the school/JC and to also consider the other aspects; under the proper environment, the child will thrive. I wouldn't use the fact that one is better than the other (on results alone) as the basis.

No comments/feedback about SJI, but you might want to consider SJI's Independent status and the soon to be implemented IP when you make your choice?

Hi 25hour,

You mean if i chose SJI, My son may be able to switch to IP

Sorry, I only know that they are on the new IP school list, but forgot when they are going to implement it, have not been following the info.

What I meant was you might want to find out more about the possibilities of going inot the IP route if you decide to put SJI as your 1st choice.

On the flipside, HC produced more PSC scholars than RJ. It really depends on the individual, and I agree with kiasuest2 that it's better to match your child's interests with the strengths of the secondary school or she won't be happy no matter how good the school is.

Hey meow, you mean that Hwa Chong produced more PSC scholars than RJC THIS YEAR? or in the past? I agree that in the past, Hwa Chong is top but in recent years, I find that RJC's A levels far better than Hwea Chong. I think that is because with the IP programme, many good students from RI, RGS , Dunman High now don't go to Hwa Chong but go to RJC and stay in Dunman High. So Hwa Chong has lost a lot of top students.
I think it's for the year 2009, not too sure, you can check the HC website maybe? That's true. Anyway, no matter which school, it's not impossible to succeed if you really want to. It's not as if HC is lagging terribly behind RJ, in any case; they're nearly on par! If your daughter's not happy in NY she can always transfer to RJ in Year 5.
