Thank you..It helps
My personal opinion. Both schools are good. But some points for you to consider.pris-tan:
My daughter got 244, and we are staying at choa chu kang, just 5mins walk to Bukit Panjang High School. We got headache about choosing Nan Hua or BPHS as our 1st choice.
Anybody good advice pls.....
1) Nan Hua is a SAP school. I believe all students must do Higher Chinese as I noticed that in their 2011 Sec 1 booklist, there is no textbooks for Chinese as 2nd Lang. Is your daughter strong in Chinese? If no, then it will be a challenge for her. You may want to call the school and ask whether there is Chinese as 2nd Lang for those who cannot cope with Chinese.
2) Being a SAP school, I don't think there are students from other races, unless these students take Higher Chinese. Do you want your child to mix with Chinese race students only or you prefer a school which she can interact with other races?
3) Nan Hua do not have NA or NT students but BPHS has. Some parents prefer not to have NA or NT students in the school (which i don't understand why). So you may want to consider this point too.
4) Another factor you should consider is what subjects the school offer to its Sec 3 students. Most schools will encourage students to do A Maths or Pure Science(s). However not all students are good in maths or science. Some students may prefer other subjects like Literature, Geography, Arts, Design and Technology, etc.
According to the website of both schools, I noticed that in Nan Hua, it is compulsory to do A Maths and at least 2 Pure Sciences. Hence, what will happen if a student fail his Maths/ Sciences in Sec 2? Does the student still need to do A Maths or Pure Sciences in Sec 3? Won't it be a nightmare to the students? I understand that in another school, students who fail Maths in Sec 2 still takes A Maths in Sec 3. However if they fail their A Maths in Sec 3, they will be asked to drop. I think this is ridiculous as the student has wasted one year studying something they don't like.
On the other hand, BPHS is more flexible as it offers combined Science to the weaker students. Also A Maths is not compulsory.
Hope the info helps you.
My daughter really hope to get in to MGS, which COP is 250 or 251. She ask me whether can appeal using her music(taking exam for keyboard pratical G4 exam, and G5 theory next year , and now taking up piano G1)
She won 2nd prize on the music school competition. -

Your son offered EESIS at 253? Is he from GEP?
it does not make sense to put SJI before CH.
Anyone can advise, I wonder should place SJI before CH or vice versa? Staying sengkang.weekeelong:

Yes, he's offered, and with 3rd language option. He scored 2 A* 2 A. Still feeling a waste if dont choose IP school. Actually was advised to put Dunman as 1st choice (think very slim), then CH as 2nd choice. Should I follow this advise?
SJI COP for past 2 year was abt 242. CH COP was 248. As posting is done by merit, your choice of CH under SJI is \"wasted\".
Thanks..u justified my initial thought.
with 253 u may still want to utilise the EESIS and put SJI first, SJI does offer some form of GEP for those who do not make it to the first batch of IP schs and this is recognised by MOE as well ... -
My DD has 257. Is there any chance of getting into RGS? We are considering RGS as first choice and SCGS second. Is this selection safe?

thanks 25hourmaid!you've been a great help! :udawoman:doublesmile10:
can we add our hmt bonus points even our score is not above 250 to enter a sap school?
HMT points can be used for ANY SAP Schoool, regardless of PSLE T-score. -

My son is very interested in RV. He got 252+2. Is it safe for him or not?
Shouldn't be a problem. The COP for RV is 25125hourmaid:
What is my son's chances of getting into RV with 249?
All I can say is no harm trying, but no guarantee for anything. COPs fluctuates every year. -

thanks iikengkeng! this information is very useful. :salute:
Precisely what I've been saying. But thanks for clarifying with MOE.iikengkeng:
The verdict whether the published COP is inclusive of SAP:
This is a reply I got from MOE today:
Thank you for writing to us on 29 November 2010.
We wish to inform you that the posting of pupils to secondary schools is computerised. All pupils will be ranked by merit according to their PSLE results. In general, a pupil would be considered for admission to his choice of schools before another pupil who has not performed as well in the PSLE, subject to the availability of vacancies in the school.
As such, the student with the aggregate score of 241 (239+2) would gain a higher chance in the Special Assistance Plan (SAP) school when compared to the student who has gotten 240. Please note that the bonus points for Higher Chinese Language can only be used for competition for places in SAP schools. It is only meant for posting purposes.
Should both the students apply for non SAP schools, the student with the aggregate 240 would be in an advantageous position compared to the student with 239 – without bonus points.
Please also note that the aggregate scores in the Secondary 1 booklet is inclusive of the bonus points for the SAP schools.
Cheers!

Nan Hua has strong Chinese emphasis, which is very gd for the students, if the travelling time is not too long, it is a gd choice. If u want to opt for convenience, then u should choose BPHS. Did u attend the open house for both sch? If u did, then u can try to compare the diff culture, prog, behaviour of students, etc. Ask your daughter which sch she likes. It is v important that she likes the sch as she'll be there for 4 yrs.My daughter got 244, and we are staying at choa chu kang, just 5mins walk to Bukit Panjang High School.
